First DIY 100w Cob Setup

What's up with your world today my led peeps? I'm really interested in getting into cob led lighting and decided to try it out with a micro grow using a 100w, warm white cob. It's nothing special by any means. I bought the cheapest I could find without sacrificing too much quality, HOPEFULLY! so, I bought the cheap setup to see what could be done with the 8-99k lumens of a low budget cob. Just wondering if what I recently ordered from Amazon will be good to go once I wire it all up and if a single light like this could pull some decent bucket grow bud. Thanks guys.

Those are not that great.. Im most sure on the efficiency... but Im sure they put out some light. I think the biggest issue that comes to mind is the quality of the product. I have a light made from them and a PAR meter on the way.. Of course that was before I found..... The light..... lol. There are people that grow with them and they can work... I may use my old light as a fill later but I do not think Ill ever need it.

I'm going to mount it in the center of my micro grow containers light top, surrounded by cfls.. https://www.rollitup.org/t/spacebucket.918351/#post-12909347 ..It will bump the total wattage of that from 111 to 211+-. I'm fully capable of ordering Cree top bin chips, but I wanted to test some cheap ones first.

Yup I did the same thing... but my PAR meter has been delayed for months... Just got with the company yesterday and they sent it out.
That sucks. That's the lohas company, correct? I got mine from Amazon, so I'm not worried about delayed deliveries. They're guaranteed delivery is tomorrow.

But I do know the heat output... and its alot...Like equal to a standard HPS hot.. So keep the AC Prices in mind.
I have the fan built onto the heat sink which will help cool, plus my light top is separated from my plants by silicone glass. Air passes right through the lights and out the other side via exhaust fan and passive intake, sort of like a 150w hps in a reflector with glass and an exhaust fan. I don't think heat should be a problem. Also, I am going to be using it when the weather is in the 40's-60's where I live so I'm thinking the ac bill won't be an issue lol.

i like what you're doing hazednconfused. you will get buds and they will be good. Not huge but for the price it's worth the go.

The lohas leds are not the best. but they work.
There are better ones. I like the ERCHEN 100W ( search ER CHEN(TM) 100W EPISTAR LED Chip Warm White Bulb ), they are higher quality leds with better lumen output and higher cri, but with price changes, you probably get a CXA for a deal.

You can go with vero or cree or some other higher end brand if you want. IT's all relative, you either spend more on the high output led and use less power, or spend less on the an cheapo/decent leds and put more.

I spend less on the leds and put more. it's just better coverage runs cooler and possibly more lumen/watt.

high cri vs low and color temp are depend on what your plants like, you have to find the spectrum that works for you.

One last thing. these lohas cobs get HOT. that driver will work well as it has a varible voltage and constant current.

Also double check the positive and negative, paint the positive side red so you have a reference. this way you wont blow it.

good luck! post more pics when you set it up.

have fun~!

Thanks man, I appreciate the info! I just wanted to dip my toes in the water a little and see how it feels. I'll definitely upgrade to cxb if I do decide to go full on COB. My question for you is, if I were to use that driver on a cxb 3590/ 3600ma max would it work? Thanks for your help bro.

That cob you bought is neither cheap nor good. A $12 Citizen would use ~65W to make 9000 lumens. People aren't being snobs not using Chinese pieces of shit, they are just awful.
I don't know who said anything about people being snobs for using quality chips. I also don't find a reason to downtalk what I bought; it's sort of pointless. I asked if what I bought will work and stated that I'm trying out some "cheap" chips BEFORE buying comparingly expensive $30+ Cree chips. What you told me is only really an issue with superfluous energy usage which I have plenty of snob money to pay for. I didn't want a "woulda, coulda, shoulda did this" reply because I already know what I can buy and do. But, other than that, thanks for the info.

I think what he was trying to say was if you had researched the price point a bit more not only would have have more bang for your buck but you would still have your starter chips. Im not on either side but thats how it came off to me.

For better or worse this is a public forum, and what I posted is not irrelevant to literally everybody else but you. These particular breed of cobs are a waste of money, and people now and in the future can avoid the mistake that you are making trying to go down this path.

I really didn't mean to offend you, just making an argument for why I think this is a bad idea. A classic case of the cheapest option not being the most frugal.

Chinese PoS? Isn't about everything made in china now or parts sourced from there and labeled made in the USA or sold by an American?

Make a light and grow bro, whatever chips you want to use. Pretty sure you can grow shit with candle light if you really wanted too.
People get so stuck on brand names sometimes.
