this is my first try at a dwc and i have no idea what in doing wrong. water ph is 5.5-5.7. is there any one out there that can give me some advice??? plz help

how do you prevent over watering in a dwc system?? and the foil is just over the medium of the net pots cause there was some alge started on the top but that is fine now cause the light isnt getting to it any more

i think it was the heat, the last few days here have been over 100 and they are in a closet, but there is a vent from the basement so the temp in there was around 88-92. iv canged my fan set up and now is like 68-73. if i cut off all the dead and crispy leaves will they bounse back ok??

i am useing a dwc to in a cabinet first grow ever.i have all kinds of probloms.i had one leaf turn brown at tip and turn down i was told plain foil gets to hot also that it could be a K defishansy or nut burn but i never know witch is right and i was told not to cut leaf till it is completly dead and i can pull it off easily. can you tell me how you got your closet cooler i have truble with my heat and i have a squirrel blower and a inline fan

i cut a 12" by 12" square hole in the floor that goes straight down to my very cool dirt floor crawl space that is like 45 year round and mounted a 12" window fan in it

What kind of lights are you using? I would definately trash the foil and use something else... cardboard maybe? As for a lack of "K" check your nutrient solution label. I'm on my first dwc grow and had the same problem but mine was alot sooner. I had nutrient burn b/c I put in full strength nutrients when I should have used 1/3 strength, 2/3 strength and then full strength after 3-4 weeks but the label didn't say anthing about that I learned that on here. Temps around 95 degrees will kill your plants. Aim for 65-70 optimal.

im useing cfls, 8-42 watt ( 150 equivelants) and a 65 watt (300 watt equivelant) the foil is gone and iv got the temp down to around 68 so ill wait a few days and see if they bounce back, and as for nutes. im not even useing 1/5 stength yet cause there are still a few seedlings that just sprouted.

oh and i forgot to add thativ been useing tap water and changing it every 7 days, but the 2nd time i changed it i used rain water cause i read some where on here that its better, but it caused some hella root rot quick so i had to change it the next day back to tap water and the roots look a lot better now. any ideas on why this might have happened?

thanks but i cant cut holes in my house.i am useing an 600w hps ppm was 526 cut it back to 437. does the room temp really affect my cabinet temp

and for the water, sometimes if u live in the city the rain can be contaminated, use distilled water, just take a sterile bucket fill it up and let it sit out for 24 hours that makes it perfect for plants that way gets all the chlorine or what not out of ur tap water good luck man!

Your plants look fine mate, I think you had it right when you said it was too hot for them in there, Try to keep em at 72 degrees farinheit.

Any new pics for us to gander at?

here are some pics from today after i got the fiol out and got thetemp down to like 70 from 98. iv got 12 started in a dwc system and am going to try a sog or lollipop them, not realy sure. they are all bag seedsso i dont know what strain but there is a variety of sativa and indica for sure, i think one may be some sort og thai strain. for lights im useing cfls all the way. 8- 42 watters and a 65 watter. any comments or suggestions are welcome.

your initial pics where a P deficiency, you are most likely using too little or imbalanced nutes. The pics look like fig. 13 and 14 here http://www.drugs-forum.com/growfaq/97.htm . Nute burn is a flat crispy look to the ends of the leaf, like fig 4 in the above link. it is my opinion that most people use imbalanced nutrients and that is not helped by constant flushing due to misdiagnosis and low nutrient dosages because the grower chooses to err on the side of caution.

glad to see the foil gone, and the temps down. it would help to know what make and model of nutes you are using, your rez size (you probably already said but my mind is on a roll), and the ml/l of all additives and base nutes and EC readings, and also the age in days.

if you want to post that all in a concise post, I will tell you if I see anything wrong.

i was using a 10 gal rez and i was using miracle grow:cry: and epsom salt. they were ok for a little longer but i dont have the dwc learning curve down yet, or the right nutes. so i decided to transplat them to soil till i can afford to do a hydro set up the right way

hydro can be a pain sometimes, startup cost is more and its a lot to wrap anyones brain around.

you should try some good hydro nutrients next time you give it a go, the Flora Nova line is really easy to use and produces good results imo (pretty cheap too, like 20$ each for grow and bloom by the quart, last close to 2 grows in a 25 gallon rez.)
