I'm going to disagree with this. Generally when FIMing the goal is to produce multiple top colas, so you have to let the plant actually develop those leads or you're just going to reduce your yield overall. FIMing should be done midway through veg.

Wolverine is correct, It's better to fim when you know you have a few more weeks of veg, that way the tops will be strong enough to support the bud you want harvest.
Yes and yes. I like to FIM twice when the plant is very small...just a few nodes. Then let it grow for several weeks. This not only gives several colas, but several branches.
And...never ever FIM or top or supercrop during bloom. A little bending is all you can do...and do that early before the branches start to harden.
