FIM a mother?

My prime plant who is doign beautifully is just forming it's 6th node and I have enough foliage below the second node to be comfortable enough to FIM.

My question is.. do you only FIM plants you plan to flower or is there a benefit to FIMming your mothers? The reason I ask is because I want this plant to be a Mother, and I don't want to ruin it by FIMming her.

(I hope it's a her)

Thanks in advance :)

If the plant is going to be used as a mother then you have no choice but to fim or top it.
When creating a mother you want a lot of branching to use as clones.
In your case, with 6 nodes visible, I would take this mother at the 3rd or 4th node, and make that my first clone.
From there she will form 2 branches at the node you topped her from.
Then let her shoot out and take those new branches just above their first node, then etc etc etc.
Because you don't know if it's a girl, just put one of her clones into 12/12 to find out.

Awesome advice, but I plan on fimming with Uncle Ben's technique (pinch between 2nd and 3rd node. Your advice cleared up a lot though, thank you :) My question is, because this is such a large cutting, or that it has a large amount of foliage/nodes... how do I prepare it?

Cut it at a 45 angle, dip in water, dip in rooting hormone (powder), place into my cloning rockwool cube (which would be previously soaked). But, what do I do about all the extra foliage?

It's hard to explain, so go over to this thread by Al B. It's just what you need to know, with pics, and Al knows his stuff. LINK >>>
