Fewer Lights, More Ventilation, or Both?

2x2x4.5H box, just in testing phase right now. box is located in my garage which will already cause me heat problems b/c it gets hotter out there, but it's my only option.

currently box has one PC fan rated at 25cfm for exhaust and a passive intake

just received 8 42W CFLs that i planned to use for veg

plugged them in, shut it up, and i went from 80 to 90 degrees in about 30 min. obviously this isn't going to work. right now i'm testing it with 4 of the bulbs in and a 4" fan blowing inside as well to help circulate the air. temps have dropped to 88.5 in a few minutes.

i have also ordered 10 more fans from newegg, which are all around 30cfm i believe ($1.29 each with free shipping when you buy 10!!!). my plan is to put 3 exhaust fans at the top (total, including the one i have already) and then put 2 of these at the bottom for forced intake.

do you think with all those fans running i will be able to run all 8 lights? or am i just overreaching with that many?

also, i've read some places where people make their intake 2x-3x as big as exhaust, but that sounds like it would cause some severe air leakage out the intake vents (if they were passive that is). what is the accepted ratio of intake-to-exhaust? it would seem you'd want to have more exhaust to create a negative pressure in there.

i plan on only trying 1 plant with a scrog method my first time around, but i wanted to pack as many watts/lumens in there as i could. thanks for the help.:joint:

lol hey mate. you could have just got a stronger fan and used the one :S

but im sure you had your reasons.... anyway that shud be enough ventilation but do you have smell to worry about??... if so how are you going to cope with all those seperate fans??.

if i onlyy had them fans i would put them all at the top of the grow room and have a largish hole at the bottem for a passive intake, thus doubling your cfm exchange.

peace out

Thanks for the help. I've got some other room cooling ideas that I might try out, but my initial idea is to keep 4 lights on all the time and cycle the other four off and on every hour or so. that way the plants will get that extra light sometimes, will get no less than 4x42W at all times, and will stay a little bit cooler by cooling down every other hour.
