Few questions about AG

Ok, so say there's a 7-pod aerogarden with full spectrum lighting, and 4 germinated seeds. After I plug the unused holes and set up the timer, do I need to buy some rockwool to plant the seeds in? There's a few small airstones, do I just make a hole in the airstone and plop it in?
Aswell as an airpump, is an extra needed?

Edit: Any tips appreciated

Winner: You'll hear all kinds of ideas as to how to plant and grow M/J with an A/G. I use the A/G cages and A/G grow pods. I prefer the older short cages and I cut down the new style longer A/G pods to fit and it works great. I plant in the A/G rather than germinate elsewhere and have to transfer them. You can use the smallest rock wool cubes and some people cut down Rapid Rooter plugs but to me that's been more work than it's worth.

I like the small round air stones and air hose you can find at the 99 cents store in the pet department. You can get a five gallon aquarium air pump from Wal-Mart for about seven bucks and that will oxygenate your nutes.

I can pretty much tell you that the seven holes A/G's are best because they have the biggest reservoir but you'll need more than the two lights they come with once they start vegging. I upgraded mine with an A/G kit that includes the taller arm/light stand, (24 inches tall), and a bigger hood with three higher intensity flat CFL's.

As far as growing four plants, you may already have a problem, as I've found that we're pretty much limited to two plants, possibly three in an A/G if they're real small, but in my experience four is just too many. I'f you have a second A/G it's no problem. I would recommend A/g's plugs for the unused holes. I've done it a lot of different ways but none of them worked as good as what A/G designed for us. I guess it's kind of like using Ford parts on a Chevy.

Last but no least, what nutes are you going to use? I don't like A/G's nutes for our favorite herb. You might want to visit your local hydroponics store to see what they carry. I've been using Technaflora's "Recipe for success," for the last couple of years and I really like it.

If you have a Harbor Freight Tools store nearby they have a good independent light timer for about six buck that works well for what we need. You'll also want to make another trip to the 99 cents store for a 'figure eight cord' from the electronics department to bypass your light control to the timer. Other than that I'd say read everything you can get your hands on on both the cultivation of M/J and the Aerogarden. If you do I don't think you can go wrong. Good Luck.

Thanks, I have four 1 1/2" X 4" airstones, able to get air pump-- (5 gallon?)
The aerogarden has a slightly under 3ft lamp extender which to my understanding is a 5000k full spectrum which i'll use till flowering and then get some 2700k bulbs.

As for nutrients, do you go and buy like nitrogen in itself and add it to the water, or is there premixed packets of nutrients made for mj?

Already got 24hr timer aswell, I have a figure 8 cord from old ps2, digital thermometer/hydrometer, 21-29C and 50% humidity I believe is correct.

Thanks, I think i'll figure it out for the most part. basically need to get an air pump and figure out these stones first off xD

Winner: with the A/G pH is always a problem because of the small reservoir. It practically changes by the hour. You'll need a reliable tester and the electronic ones are the fastest and easiest. If you change your nutes weekly you shouldn't need a ppm meter. If you got the A/G with all the bells and whistles on it the arm/light stand should extend up to 24 inches not three feet. And there are some minor modifications you can make to the arm/light stand that will give you a more finite adjustment.

A problem I'm having right now is that my instructor suggested a rather bizarre lighting schedule that starts at twenty hours on and reduces by one hour weekly and my plants are out growing the A/G even with the upgrade kit. To keep them in the light I'm having to gently bend over the topical buds with four pound nylon fishing line weighted with 1/16 and 1/8 ounce lead crimp on weights. So far so good on that.

As far as nutes are concerned, I used A/G's for a long time but they require too much guess work and it takes an act of congress to get your 'herbs' to flower with their nutes. I suggest you go to your local hydroponics store and look at what they have to offer. For the last couple of years I've been using Technaflora's "Recipe for Success," and I've been very happy with the results. You can get a sample kit for about $30 and it will last you a long time in an A/G. I use their formulations from the germination and seedling stage to right up to harvest. The only change I've made was recently a friend suggested I add 1/4 of a teaspoon of Monster Bloom to my nutes during flowering. I've done that for the last two crops and I can't honestly say it's made any change in my end product but it's done no harm. I paid twenty bucks for the stuff so I'm not going to throw it away.

You might also want to pick up a copy of Cervantes's book on growing medical M/J. It's an easy read and it has saved me a lot of heartaches.
