~Fat Bastards and RQS’s Critical~ Beginner Grow

What’s good people, I’m an amateur grower with just 3 small grows under my belt. I have some basic knowledge when it comes to growing plants in a controlled environment but I must admit I’m no ‘GrowFather’.

Ok so, in the past I have grown L.S.D from Barney’s Farm, if memory serves me well I managed to yield around 2-3oz’s per plant. That was the first time I ever tried LST, it worked well. My first 2 grows were with some sour diesel cuttings I chanced upon, it was my first time growing and I managed to yield around 1.5-2oz’s per plant.

That was some years ago now and since lockdown I’ve decided to give growing another shot. Today I picked up 14 Fat Bastard seeds and 1 Critical Seed from Royal Queen Seeds. I picked Fat Bastard because of a recommendation from a friend who had some good luck with them in the past, he boasted pulling 6-8oz’s per plant. (I still don’t believe him.) But, I thought I’d give them a try.

My goal for this grow is to do everything as perfectly as I can and to be able to hit my goal of 4oz’s per plant in bone dry weight.

I will be posting videos, pictures and questions here on this thread, feel free to post here I really don’t mind and I appreciate all of the help and feedback I can get.

Here are the girls I picked up today

I’m going to read some information on germinating these babies and I’m also going to take a look into what to use for a growing medium and pot sizes etc, if anyone has any advice I beg you to post it and let me know.

Happy growing people! :leaf:

Welcome Roma

You should use a peat based medium like Pro Mix HP - you want good drainage.

Start off in plastic beer cups, move to a 6" pot, then to a 5 - 7 gallon flowering pot.

.

Do you have a grow tent? What size? What kind of lighting are you going to use? How many plants are you going to grow? Are you going to train them?

Thank you for the warm welcome :)

The girls have been placed into sterile shot glasses filled with distilled water with a pH of 6.5. I’m keeping them in between 20-25 Celsius and in the dark for 24 hours, hoping the seeds pop open and spread their taproot. I’m unsure wether to use the wet paper towel method or not, do you think it is viable and will optimally germinate my seeds or is there a better procedure?

I have been doing some surfing around different websites in the UK and I’m 80% sure I’ll use this medium:CocoLite

I’m going to head down to a local garden centre tomorrow to get some pots and a propagator.

I do have a grow tent, I am unsure of the exact dimensions but I will measure sometime this week when I start putting it together. The most I have ever got inside of the tent comfortably was 15. I can fit 20 in at a stretch, but it’s not ideal and makes it very difficult to tend to the plants.

As for lighting, I currently have no bulbs but will more than likely being running two 1000w HPS with adjustable ballasts, I have this:My Ballast. I also need an intake, extraction fan and carbon filter. Once I have the dimensions of my tent I’ll buy those accordingly to fit my grow area.

I’ve got 15 seeds in total, I’m going to try my best so that they germinate optimally and give my ladies the best start. If any do die I plan to take clones from my healthiest plants 2 months in, but fingers crossed all 15 perform well.

I am not very confident when it comes to training but I guess I will need to train them properly to achieve my goal of 4oz’s of dry bud per plant. So I’ll be researching and asking a lot of questions on this subject in the future.

The paper towel method is the best, soaking your seeds in water can drown them. Are you familiar with the paper towel method?

Best not to use distilled water for growing, it can leach minerals out of the plants and seeds.

I’m familiar with the method, I will start that tomorrow once my seeds have popped.

How long do my taproots need to be before potting in a beer cup?

Whilst growing I fill a 100L tank with tap water and nutes and balance the pH, I think I was roughly going through 100litres every 2 weeks on 18/6 and 100L a week on 12/12 or maybe it was the other way round.
