Fan Question

I'm upgrading from a 400w in a closet to a 600w tent kit.

Tent 1.2mx1.2mx2m. 600w HPS. Will a 4" fan with carbon filter be sufficient enough to cool a 600w?
I don't know the CFM rating at the moment.

Any help/advice be great!

Also is it gonna cost me much more in electric moving up to 600w from 400w? Will the yield make it worth while? I'm cash cropper.

you really would wanna go with the 6 inch 8 if you have 2 hoods, I have an 8 inch inline connected to 2 hoods and filter ,filter is outside grow room

That's kl guys just thought would ask. Will go for 6". Also looking at tents. Currently got 400w not sure if worth upgrading to 600w just yet. How many plants would recommend in 1.2 x 1.2 x 2m tent with a 400w? Or think should downsize tent for 400w. Just wanted the space in case upgrade lights.

That's a big tent for 400

600's are much more efficient and won't cost that much more to run. With a 600 you could fill the whole tent. With a 400 you can fill it 2/3 with plants but some light will be wasted.

More watts = more buds. Plain and simple. 600 for sure and do your research and get a quality hood. Not some eBay POS Good luck and have fun

Yes. And this is easily google able by the way...

The digital ballasts have many advantages over a magnetic ballast, so much that I never understood why anyone would buy a magnetic ballast. They are quiter, the run cooler, they are very slightly more efficient, they never wear out like a magnetic ballast, try do put out more light.

I have lumateks and have never had a problem. I even wired a new 220 circuit and when I pushed the outlet into the box, the exposed wires got crossed. The lights came on but when I touched the hood, I got the shit shocked out of me. The ballasts were fine though. Probably would have toasted cheap ballasts.
Lumatek, quantum, and galaxy are all about the same. The cheap ballasts on eBay have been know to cause interference with cable tv and what not.

Get a digital, veg with cheap home depot 400 MH bulbs ($25) then ramp it up to 600 for flowering. I would suggest ushio bulbs. I've tried digilux, ushio, and hortilux. The ushios edged above all of them.

Cheers

Thanks for all help. + rep sir.

Cant fit 1.2 tent. Gonna have to get 0.8 with 5" fan and just keep with 400 w for now

I'm having a problem guys. With a 0.8 tent what size fan would I need to cool a 400w light? Can't really afford to get it wrong. Hydro shop sod even 5" fan won't cool down a 400w in that tent :/

400 watt wont cause crazy heat problems it when u get too 1000 watts u have to start to worry bout coling hood down

why aren't you taking the advice given? If your worried about heat then a 4" inline fan. Most of those are going to be around 300 CFM.

Bottom line, your tent is too fucking small. 4.5' high? Your going to have to flip when they are like 10" tall.

Fans for the most do not produce the air flow they say they are rated for. Especially the cheap hydro stuff you see on eBay. I personally would never buy anything of eBay for my grow room. Most of it is cheap crap made in China and does not even come close to performing at the level they say. Your .8m tent is basically 30" x 30" inside. A 400w light is more than enough to cover that footprint. Try and keep the light 8" from the canopy as the plants grow. If a few shoot up taller than the others then that is ok; they can get as close as 4" without any problems. Just try and move them around so the taller branches are on the outsid of the tent. A 400w light produces very little heat. If you were able to purchase the tent with a quality fan (Can 4" High Output) then a 4" fan would be plenty as long as your filter was appropriatly sized and you had no other ambient temperature issues. If they do not offer you that fan or it is too expensive then just get the best 6" fan you can buy. Then, later on if you do switch to a 600w system you will already have the fan for it. Don't trust the CFM ratings of any of those cheap fans. There are tons of videos on YouTube showing that those fans EVER actually produce what they are rated for. If your tent is 4.5' tall then you should be able to grow 3' plants just fine. Assuming you are using pots in flower that are 1' tall then you should veg your plants till they are 16" and then switch to flower. With these size plants and pots you'll be able to fit possible 9-12 in your tent.
