Fan Question?

I was thinking of using one of those inline 6" duct fans at Home Depot. Would that flow enough air to cool my shade on the 1000w HPS? I was aslo thinking of using one to filter air through my carbon scrubber. They are only 28.00 it would be a good deal if it will be able to keep up. I have a grow tent 4x4x6.5 Any HELP????

it might be adequate for cooling lights but i wouldn't rely on it to exhaust a room and push/pull it through a filter.

Ideally, the CFM rating for the exhaust fan would be about 3 times the square feet of your grow room. Which means with the correct fan you'll be completely exhausting the air from your grow room three times a minute. Two times is OK but nearer to three is better.

Or
((Width X Length X Height of grow room) x 3) = Ideal CFM rating of exhaust fan.

For you that is:

((4 x 4 x 6.5 ) X 3) = 312 so a fan with Cubic Feet/Minute (CFM) rating of around 312 is what you're looking for (doesn't have to be exact - in fact 225 CFM would be adequate).

but with a fan like that - make sure you have some intake holes (no fan necessary) otherwise you'll create vacuum in your grow room (not good). One note about intake holes - they should be a bit larger than the exhaust hole. And multiple small holes are a bit better than a single large one (really helps get the air circulating). EXAMPLE: say you use a 6" exhaust fan. Three 3" intake holes would be just about perfect.

Granted the vortex fans ain't cheap but you'll need to cool off those lights and get fresh air into your grow room. You'll also need a relatively powerful fan to make sure all the odor gets pushed (or pulled) through a filter.

I should also mention that they can be quite noisy.
