I can't really find any good info on this question.
Ive have it happen to me and I wasnt happy, like most noobs I thought it went hermie.

my question is why does some plants show false seed pods and others plants grow to what I think is normal looking buds???
how to prevent?

any info on this subject would be great.

I think you might be talking about the calyx, which is the main part of the female flower. When ripe, the calyx will swell up, and look as if a seed is growing inside. That is actually a good indicator of bud ripeness.

then the flower becomes elongated with a look of being seeded, tho its not.
um, let me see if I can jack a link.....

and my bud shot at the same age as link

I understand its a false pregnantcy, or thats what ive read.
my question is why and how to prevent it.
thanks for any help

i'm not gettin' it. what's the problem? looks good to me. :blsmoke:

Its not actually a false seed pod per say.
Its an old term for a swollen calyx/pod that is so swollen that it appears to contain a seed but does not actually contain anything except resin.:blsmoke:

Hers some text that probably explains it a lot better than i do and in more detail.

Chapter Twenty-Nine

Harvesting

Female marijuana goes through several stages of flowering.
First a few flowers appear. Then new flowers develop around the
first ones. Flowers also form at each leaf node along the branches
and main stem. The buds start to fill out so that the cluster becomes
thick with pistils (the little antennae) reaching out for pollen. The
pistils are white, or sometimes shaded pink or lavender. They look
fresh and moist.
Some of the pistils begin to wither and turn red, purple, or
even a light brown. Just as the cluster looks like it's finished, a new
wave of flower growth appears, usually concentrated in a relatively
bare spot. Successive waves of flowers may appear for weeks.
The flowers close, and the calyxes start to swell. This is a false
seed pod; the flowers have not been fertilized and no seed can
develop. These pods are totally covered with resin glands. At
maturity the glands should sparkle like individual jewels in bright
light. The individual glands should appear clear under magnifica-
tion. When the glands turn amber, the buds should be harvested.
No bud should be picked before its time. Plants and varieties
differ as to maturation pattern. Some plants mature all at once, so
that the whole plant can be picked. Other varieties mature from the
top down. One respected researcher claimed ""Most plants I've had
mature bottom to top. The main bud was the last to finish." Under
lights, however, the top buds mature first most of the time. Next,
the buds nearest the top and so on. The buds on the outside of the
branch are likely to mature faster than inner buds. It may take a
month before the plant is totally picked. Picking the plant a little at
a time allows previously shaded portions of the plant to receive light
and grow.

I must not be asking the question right....

the link with my pic is of tight buds, where the "clusters" form into with each other making a large bud.

in the highjacked link the "clusters" seems to be growing separate and not forming a large bud but instead is growing elongated and lose and forming odd shaped buds

I seen meany post where people thought the plant went hermy, to only be told otherwise and its only a case of false pregnancty.

could this be a strain question?

the swollen pods are a good thing. even when they don't have seeds they still swell up. i think the elongated buds come from being to close to the light during the final weeks of flowering. it not from heat but from light intensity. maybe they are used to such intense light because in the fall when they flower naturally the sun is lower in the horizon therefore not as intense.

so less light stress will prevent elongated/false pregnancty seed pod looking buds, right?
we are just talking about raising the lights, right?
thanks FDD

can you tell me the difference in bud shape from each photo?
to me it appears to be totaly two different shaped buds growing.
the jacked link to me appears to have a lot of 1/2 opened clusters that are spaced out.
while the other pic is a dence network of clusters fully opened forming large buds.
I understand its a totaly different strain, but I thought all flowers appear the same just size/color/smell is different.
thanks

Im at the same stage as you, and just started noticing these, and thaught they were seeds, but realized they are just big juicy calyxes, and i was wondering when they would show up weeks ago!!

and all flowers end up differently....... a indica will be short tight hard nugs while a sativa will be more fluffy and big, the buds definetly look different, moreso while they are still alive!

Hahaha lol, I just had this happen! Smells damn good inside those falsies! Smells like sweet weed koolaid ahhhh. But I totally thought my plant went herm too. I have a weird lookin' auto flower blue mammoth cuz I switched the light hrs so many times on it. I'm actually really surprised I didn't get any seeds! I was kinda expecting them...

My strain does it every run, no matter what. Tiny little pods that look like seeds, filled with resin. Always freaks me out when its close to harvest, but no hermies or real seeds.

FYI everyone it's called FOXTAILING and yes, less light will prevent it. As mentioned numerous times though its not a bad thing, they are growing FURTHER and BIGGER which = MORE.

Mostly everyone goes through this. My pan dragon 80/20 sativa dominant hybrid calyx s looked so swollen I knew for sure there was a seed. I even cut a few open and found the unfertilized ovary attached to the pistils. Some sativas foxtail... (making kind of spire like structures at tops of colas) automatically but it also is a big indicator of too much light. The light may not be hot on the back of the hand test but an extremely bright light too close to your plants will cause unwanted effects, foxtails and valuable terpenes evaporating. I'm not a master or expert just have experience with this..

Well this thread was interesting but I am not yet sure if it's relieved me or made me more stressed .I have these, what I thought were seeds, developed on my plant. I have more that I am cultivating outdoors. I live on the Costa cálida Spain on a small holding. One of my plants went haywire overnight after I found that mice had made a nest in the pot, said mice and nest disposed of and plant watered and I was hopeful I had saved it only to find next morning that all the clusters had morphed into what look like little seed/flower pods. I quickly isolated it but checking on the plant next to it I saw what at the time seemed like seed pods, after reading this thread I looked closer through a magnifying glass and removed one but inside seems to be a white creamy liquid. This is my third attempt at growing, I am hoping that it is lucky 3. My first 2 attempts were killed when my other half cut them way to early cos she was scared that someone would steal them. She has been warned that if she touches any this time thieves will be her least worry .
