eye damage from long term use of hid's?

I used to wear my sunglasses in my grow but now my light is below my line of sight so it doesnt bother me anymore, but you should try not to look at them to much.

metal halide 400 watt without any hood is the worst. Massive mighraines that morphine wud barely take away. The glass must absorb it or something. Cuz with glass it stops as longs as I dont look at it to close.

not sure about the HID, but i would recommened using some sunglasses w/ HPS light once it's raised past 4 feet above the ground...

Your best bet is to not look directly at the bulb. Even cfls can cause some issues if you look right at them for too long. And as mentioned, sunglass cannot hurt.

yeah.. i was a printer, and we use uv lights to dry the ink after it was printed.. one day i was up on a ladder cleaning something, and i told my helper to jog the press.. when he did, the shutter opened and i got hit right in the face with the uv light... my eye wasn't right for about a week or so after.. i actually felt like i burnt my eyeball.. it was so not cool.. they actually make glasses for use with uv lights.. they are an orange color and allow you to look into the light without burning your retna like i did.. i would imagine that you would be able to get these online... i just stol...errrr.. borrowed a pair from my place of employment and use these now in my garden, but anykind of good sunglasses are definitely a good idea for when in the garden...
