Expierienced cloner needed ASAP

I really need to figure out what exactly I am doing wrong. This is getting agrevating as hell!

Ok, My first attempt at cloning went perfect, this is what I did.

I took scissors and cut of a few clones. I then took and cut the angles in the stems. I dipped them in my clonex gel, placed them in 1.5" rockwool, then placed them in a 2 gal fish tank.

I covered the tank with plastic, and 3 times a day I sprayed them with fish water, and covered them back up.

2 weeks later I pulled them out of the fishtank and placed them in bigger cubes, hooked them up to a drip system, and long story short they are flowering as we speak.

They always looked healthy from day 1 till now.

On my second go around, I did the exact same thing until like 3 days before I removed them from the fishtank. I had a piece of plexiglass cut so I could install some spray nozzles and hook them up to a pump and now could automatically water them so I didnt have to be home 3 times a day everyday! I also bust out the bottom of the tank and put in a plexiglass bottam with 2 drain holes drilled in it. I ran the fish tank for the last 3 days and removed them as I had done on my first attempt.

Everything looked fine so far.

Just like the first time, I hooked them up to drip nozzles and stopped spraying them. Within a day they looked bad. I assumed that their roots hadn't grown enough to stop foilage feeding them, so for the next few days I continued to spray them, but they all died anyway.

Ok so lets try again. This time I wont remove them until I see roots coming out of the rock wool.

I also did the prep like I'm supposed to this time. Cut the clone, razor bladed the angle, soaked the rockwool, etc etc etc!

I placed them in the fish tank, placed on the lid, and plugged in the pumps, and everything seemed great. The plants were watered on their leaves 3 times a day.

By the end of the second week, still inside the fishtank, the leaves started shrivling up. This is the same thing they were doing after 24 hours outside of the fishtank. I decided to investigate.

I pulled out one of the clones and everything looked ok. I could see a few roots going into the rockwool. The rockwool was full of water. Like a sponge fully saturated. I had heard that you cant over water rockwool, but something had to be wrong. I gently squeezed the rockwool to get alot of the water out (just in case over watering is the problem) and placed them back in the fish tank. I unplugged the pump to water them, and started spraying the leaves again. It has been 48 hours and it looks like its getting worse. I think I am going to lose this batch as well.

So just in case I did, I thought I would post this here and see if anyone could see a problem with what I'm doing.

BTW the humidity has ALWAYS been around 85 since day 1. And the temp has stayed between 85-90 since day one. I know for a fact these conditions arn't the problem.

I have this thread set to instant email, so I will be here to answer any questions you may have.

Why am I loosing all my clones?

I pulled them out of the fishtank so maybe they could dry out a little and get some air.

I also took you guys a picture so You could see, Keep in mind this is how they looked inside the fishtank...

This kind of non sense is why the Lord gave us Hempy Buckets.

it sounds like you kinda have it down. I wouldnt use the fish water as plants with no roots donnt need nutrients. I cut my clone at a 45 deg angle witha sterile scalpel. Dip in rooting hormone and place in a rockwool cube that has been soaked in pH'd water. I place in my clone tray with a heat mat and humidity dome. I dont spray the clones, just the dome. You dont want to wet the plant you want to wet the air around it. # times a day is too much too. The clone has no roots and can barely absorb water. A rocwool cube should stay moist for 2 -3 days. Your probably overwatering. Also how long since you took the clones as it can take anywhere from 1 - 3 weeks to root.

i also cut the ouside skin off the tip of the clone. Kinda like peeling a potato. Just the part that goes iinside the cube.

2 weeks and 2 days

still might take a little time. if the cube is constantly moist it is preventing the clone from getting any oxygen. Your basically drowning them. Just mist the fishtank walls and keep the cube moist with about 2 tbs. of water clean water every 2 -3 days.

I agree, you shouldn't be spraying the plant it's self, just spray the roof of the dome, and when you cut your clone do another cut under water so you don't get the oxygen bubble after you skin it, you should also take the plastic off the top for 5-10 mins every day or even a couple times aday wouldn't hurt

So you guys think I should put them back into the fishtank but just not water them for a few days?

and let me make sure I get this strait. When I cut the clone, soak the cube, and ONLY spray the walls with water? not the foilage? and keep the cubes damp

Wow

Wow
keep the dome misted once daily. Keep the cubes moist, not wet. And let them get dry before you water again. And soak cubes for 24 hours before use. Dont squeeze them to get the water out. shake it out.

ok i think im going to give up on my fishytank, where can I get one of those plastic trays with the domes that attach to them?

Ok I decided to take a picture of one of the plants that wilteds roots.

What do you guys think? this is after 2 weeks.

i wonder if feeding to much foilage, would slow down root growth... Any opinions?
yes actually. This is the same reason alot of people dont use hid's for getting clones rooted. The clones root as a survival mechanism. If you hve a clone that is under a 1000w MH and/or constantly feeding it nutes it doesnt really have to grow roots since it already has a means to survive in its current state. Obviously it couldnt go on forever like that but I find i have better success rate with plain water and floro tubes. I have 99% success rate. I have only ever had 1 -2 clones not root and that was due to my own negligence.

So then what exactly am I doing wrong? It seems the more experienced a grower I become the more I murder clones.

My mother plant is getting really sick, if I can manage to get some clones to live I plan to grow another to replace her

I use fluoros as well. I'm just so confused,

Ok check it out, heres what i do.

I grow my clones in one of these.
http://www.nationalgardenwholesale....K_SNUGFIT_DOME&title=Propagation&type=product

I that that tray sitting on one of these
http://www.nationalgardenwholesale....OUTER_HEAT_MAT&title=Propagation&type=product

The day before i clone i get a bowl of water and ajust the pH to about 6.0 I then soak my rockwool cubes in this water for 24 hours. I shake the cubes to remove excess water.

I select a branch from my mother plant that has 2 - 3 nodes (sets of branches) on it. Using a sterile scalpel i make a clean 45 degree cut on the selected branch below the bottom node. I then remove the bottom 2 branches to stalk level. Using my scalpel i shave off the outside layer of flesh on the bottom inch or so of the clone. I dip the clone into water, then into my rootone powder. Tap off excess powder. Stick in rockwool cube and make sure the hole is tight around the clone. I place in my tray.

With a spray bottle i mist the inside of the dome once daily.

I use a oral syrenge for childrens cough medicine to water my clones as i can apply an exact amount of water to exactly where it needs to be, right at the base of the clone.

Usually about 2 weeks to see root development. 3 weeks and roots are bursting out of the bottom of the cube and then i transpllant into soil.

I don't even use rock wool, I just do the cut under water and imidiatly dip in my rooting powder and put directly in the soil and then bottem feed them, put my cups in a container and the water soaks up from the bottem through the holes I make at the bottem of the cup, let them soak usually for about an hour, or until heavy again and throw them back under the lights. I have never had a clone that didn't root, then like buddy said spray the dome at least once a day

also when I first started and it's a 100 % rate, use the wick cloner, if you don't know what it is look it up, it really works great and is easy as hell to make

I've tried that method. It works pretty well. I used to just stick the clone in soil as you said, but i use rockwool now for 2 reasons. You dont have water soaked soil sitting around with no roots to absorb it, and i do alot of clone trading with a lot of the other medical growers in my area and it makes it easier to give them a rooted cube as it can be trasnplanted into any type of growing system. Mosy use soil, but i have a few hydro buddies that wouldnt be happy if the new shiskaberry clones i just gave them were covered in dirt.
