Experienced soil grower, new to hydroponics

As of late I have been interested in building a small DWC setup. I am well versed in soil and I would like to challenge myself and try something new.

Today I went out and bought the following supplies:
Black 5 gallon bucket
air line + pump
6'' net pot
hydroton

The guys at the hydro shop I go to were really diggin SuperNatural Nutrients. I bought a container of Grow Terra. I think I'm going to start out 1/4 the strength and gradually increase. The nutrients are a powder, and they were really hyping how you can go start to finish with just these 2 nutrients (grow terra and bloom terra). I checked out some of the plants they have in the store (DWC w/ supernatural nutes) and everything looked awesome. I am pretty excited to see how these work.

I am looking to see if people have advice for me when it comes to these nutes, and growing in DWC in general. Posting feedback would be greatly appreciated. I eventually want to switch from soil to hydro so I want to start a plant as kind of a testing project.
I do have a ph tester and a TDS pen. How many ppm's is it recommended I start with?

GL, if you make a journal let me know I'm thinking about swapping over.

I think going from soil to hydro wont be hard for you at all if you have a little exsperence in soil allready, and starting with just 1 bucket wont last long, you will find yourself building the ultimate set up,thats what happend to me and Im allways tweaking things as I go.and remember lots of bubbles and cool nutes dont let it go above 75 deg. and you will see the difference from soil to hydro and be hooked

You shouldnt have trouble with DWC I would say. Only on my 2nd grow now using it and all I gotta say is the rate of growth is out of this world! PH sweetspot for DWC is 5.5-6.2. For seedlings/clones you just rock straight PH'd water until they root. After a couple of weeks with just water and they've grown a bit you can introduce small dosages of nutez until they're more mature. I'm not familiar with SuperNatural nutez as I use Technaflora, but hey they should work great for ya. Pretty sure you only NEED Grow, Bloom, and Micro to successfully provide everything they need to produce well, but additives are a popular subculture as well ;) You can use a PH pen or strips. I have both in case the digital takes a crap on me ;) PPM pens are pretty cheap as well and they can tell you loads about the appetite of your plants :D Hope this helpz ya a bit...happy growing!

Oh yea...and make sure your grow containers are light-proof ;) High water temps in DWC are killer

Hey man, yeah the supernatural nutes work wonders in the DWC. But just to let you know, you should be using the Gro Aqua not the Gro Terra. Gro terra is for soil and the Aqua is for hydro(dwc, coco, etc) the NPK is a little different. And the Aqua's contain much more calcium than the terra's, which is important when your not in soil.

The nutes are super strong, so just watch your ppm's. You will notice burning right away if its too strong. But the gro aqua and bloom aqua are true one parts, i've never needed to add anything else. They are pH buffered as well, so they are very stable in a dwc system.

I usually start my ppm's about 200-250 during first week of veg, and then just start creeping up from thier. By the time im in week 3 or 4 of flower, i never find myself going above 550-600ppms. But every strain is different. Some strains you can go stronger, some less, just watch for burn and then back off accordingly.

Good luck!

Thanks bro! I do have grow aqua, I guess all the typign and research eventually makes you slip up here and there.

I was just thinking I want to learn how to grow in soil! Lol! DWC is the way to go for first time hydro. Very liite to worry about, just keep ur PH/PPM in check and ur good to go! I use the technaflora BC brand in my hydro set up! Works magic!

Soil is very easy, and forgiving. If you understand hydroponics then it'll be a walk in the park for you.

Good to know, when going hydroponic, u HAvE TO HAVE test meter, other than that, start the journal! :)

I do. I have a PH testing pen. And I also have a PPM tester. I will get the journal started in a few days. I have a Northern Lights X'd Blueberry sprouting in rockwool that I am waiting to grow big enough to put into the hydroton.

I was gonna wait until I saw roots coming out of the rockwool.. should I put in in the hydroton earlier?

I wait till roots are. Poking out, less stress. On the plant, do u have any root stimulator? It help to use some when u put the cube in hydrotn and net up, not a must though, I just like to use it
