I live in a one bedroom apartment and my grow space is 2x3' and the height is about 5' i was just wondering if i could squeeze a 250watt hps in there and how much it would effect my electric bill? Would it raise anyones attention? And one more thing would it be to much heat for that kind of space?

1. The effect on the electric bill will be minimal.

2. It will work as long as you have a way to extract hot air out of the grow space.

so i should be alright? But if it is in my closet and i got to extract the air out of my closet wouldn't that make my whole room just smell like weed. could i just have the fan blowing up at the light or have it directly at the plant to make it cool? the space is bigger than that its just the other half of the closet is the girlfriends clothes. so it would be 2x6 but still that 5feet of height.

I also only plan to grow a few plants (2-3) max so should i maybe go with a smaller system and just use a few cfls?

id say you could grow with less watts or cfls

a lot of people will push tons and tons of wattage but go to the grow journals

find some grows that look like what you want, how successful they are and then base it off that

Ok lets assume you are paying 10 cents a KW...

250 watts burning 12 hours a day (assuming you are using for flowering)

so 3000 watts a day or 3kw a day = 30 cents a day

X 30 day a month = $9 on your leccy bill per month

x2= $18 a month...

simple math

Thank you very much man......:hump:So if i will be use 2x 250whps its not problem.U know what i mean>?I dont need cops around my ass.Do you think 2x250w its ok???Just for 12/12.Sorry for my english man..One more thank you god bless your garden brother!:blsmoke::peace:

Obviously the 400 watt is better but you would have to have it a alittle further away right?Unless you have a good ventilation sytem. So I can put the 250w closer and if I have a fan blowing fresh air in and out of the room would it still produce as good of buds as the 400w if it closer? I am currently using cfls but it takes so damn long to grow. So im trying to get all the info i can on the hps. So I can make the best of the plants.

Nice grow journal how is that 150 working for ya is everything going pretty smooth? looks like some healthy plants. I pay some attention to ur journal maybe learn a thing or 2

Hey Pitbull,

Use the 250's if you already have them, if you dont then look into a 400 watt for your room, check out High Tech Garden Supply

Also for ventilation, you want to create what is called active air exhaust.

heres how it works,

You EXHAUST the hot air out of the top of the room somehow...
use this Inductor 6 In. In-Line Duct Booster Fan - DB206 at The Home Depot

Then you have a hole at the bottom that is just a hole, But it is smaller than the exhaust hole.

what this will do is create more air going out than in, NEGATIVE PRESSURE...

so as air is pushed out by the fan, the displaced air creates a vaccumm and air is sucked in the inlet...

Smart bad guy.

First you need to know how much you pay per KWH (kila watt hour).

Most likely (id even bet it is $0.1 or 10 cents a KWH.

So lets use a 1000 watt light as a example.

You have a 1000watt HPS burning for 12 hours a day, because 12 hours a day is what you use for flowering timing schedule for growing pot right? right!

So basically what a 1000 watt light does is draw 1000 watt or 1kw per hour.

This means that every day throughout the 12 hours you use roughly 12,000watts or 12kw to power this light.

so 12kwh/ day

Multiply this by you cost of each KWH which is 10 cents and we get $1.20 a day

usually 30 day a month so 30 x 1.20 = $36.00 to power 1 1000 watt HPS for a month.

Pretty easy once you get it down...
