Hey all,

I got an Electric Bill today. I'm in Michigan....

I've been running a 600W MH and recently switched to a 600W HPS. My Electric Bill is about $67.00. A 142% increase over last year!

About a week ago I added another 192W light. So my bill will be a little more next month and the following month. Probably just under a cool hunnit.

If power is an issue change out bulbs in your place for more energy efficient ones. LIke 19 w or whatever. I live like a mole but i sleep good at night knowing i have a low bill for what i use.

green,

Thanks for the tip.

I live in an apartment and I'm not sure what an average bill should be. There are no cute neighbors so I rarely talk to the others.

I've already upgraded all the light bulbs to CFL's... Lowered the Temp on the Fridge/Freezer 2 Degrees... Vacuumed the Fridge Coils, etc...

I posted just as an FYI.

When i hooked up my 2 600s and 250mh i noticed my power bill go down 80 dollars. but thats because i became alot more energy minded around the house. try getting a timer for your water heater. those things pull 3000 watts!!!!! if u have a timer on it when your not home it wont be continuously pulling power to keep a supply of hot water on hand.

i was shocked to find out on google specific data on the utility company that we use, you could read actual emails of these city workers setting up free access accounts for the police department.

Upon further reading the biggest flag, or sweep comes from meter running
4000 kwh per month

and honestly they are spot on my meters spin very rapidly, one place hit 382 kwh in 4 days. this usage is excessive. Certain places and states have big big budgets for LEO

If you have a ARM (automatic reading meter) the computer can read the current and spot surges

you need to use your head. We tend to think 200.00 electric bills are normal. so 400 not so bad.... 800.... holy cow you see what im saying

for the record most electric companys will let you check your neighbors, they might no tell you everthing but you can get a idea

HD online has a 50watt HPS for $35. Buy three and get free shipping. You can buy 8 of them for the same price as a 400watt system. As you pull males, move the light to the clone room or keep it off. The most efficient way i know to grow indoors.

while we are on the subject of electric bills, i was in my local grow shop today looking at purchasing a 1000watt setup. the guy told me that it would cost me about 1$ a day to run. is this anywhere close to being accurate?? i do realize that all areas a different in cost and what not, just looking for an average.

1000w with ballast and everything is about 50 a month. New digitals run about 20 a month. The ballast uses about ten percent of the wattage. 1000w is like 1100w.

I live in Mississippi...small town...the only thing we have running usually is the fridge and water heater....a couple of clocks...and my pc....and every light is cfl...does a $90.00 bill sound about right? And yeah that was before we added the 400watt HPS, so I am waiting to see how much that increase is...and does putting that water heater on a timer really help..and percentage-wise about how much?:blsmoke:

To calculate electricity is simple.

1000 wattage used X 18 hours on X 0.12 cost of kwh
.
_________ = $2.16 X 30 days = $64.80
.
1000

Hope this helps everyone!!

I've got a few computers in my house, usually are on 24/7, pulling 600W+ each on a average basis.

Don't be stupid, turn off lights you don't need and you're fine. Don't try and run (4) 1000W systems in your house, because then you deserve to get busted.

That isn't anything to worry about. If you want to reduce your bill just conserve on other electrical costs like an oven - get a small toaster/oven instead of the big one. use dimmers on your house lights - lower at night. Just cut other things.
