Ed Rosenthal's Super Pruning

I read this article in Marijuana Tips by Ed Rosenthal where he recommends trimming back a plant from say 24 branches to 4-8 branches at weeks 1 and 3 of flowering. He says this produces the largest grade A buds.

So I figure what the heck try it on a couple of them see what I think...

Now since I have started this I have a couple of questions...

First how much should I trim off? Do I cut every shoot all the way up to the main grow tip or should I leave some of them? Do I cut their ajoining leaves or do I leave try to leave them?

...I pruned a couple plants to test and on very few branches I trimmed all the way up the last largest main grow tip...It seems like removing to much to me but I am fairly ignorant and inexperienced in this matter.

My next question is this...as I am trimming some plants I have the option to remove the whole shoot or to leave a tiny bit of the shoot and a couple leafs..Now I notice that with each leave sprouts a new tip. So my question is this:

Does that leaf only benefit that grow shoot? Like is that leaf connected to the grow shoot's soul purpose to make the shoot grow? if I cut the shoot will the leaf continue to produce energy going elsewhere?

Thanks

It seems to me the atp produced through photo synthesis could be used in other parts of the plants...I think that could be the idea behind this technique.

If I cut all the tips and leave the leafs then the same amount of atp will be available to make 4 tips instead of 24 tips grow big

Do I cut every shoot all the way up to the main grow tip or should I leave some of them?

Don't cut them all the way the way to the stem, leave about 1/2-1 inch of it behind. The reason behind this is some of the remaining stem will wilt away as the plant heals the cut. If you cut it right next to the stem this can result in a weakness which, in turn, can result in it toppling under the heavy weight of growing buds.

If to cut them at all is a subject under hot debate. I've tried it on one of my two girls and as yet I cannot see any difference one way or another. Time will tell. Happy growing!

hello slr i would have to say yes it would go else where if you left the leave.also i lay my plants out and prune the top and bottom lats and keep the side lats because they tops will grow faster and the bottoms are covered to fast for growth so the side ones keep it uniform also.when i prune i just give the shoots enough space so they can develope into big nuggs

Very interesting thank you...With that little bit of stem do you leave as many leafs as possible?

Thanks drifter that is what I noticed to was that the most important ones to get are those under canopy leads. If only I would have pruned earlier and saved all that energy that plant used to make the thing I am snipping off =P

Great looking plants, that is a very exciting mix of genetics. I wanted to ask you at point you prune?

as i go depending what is growing where and tying down off plants as well as taking clones.but i try and keep them bushy in the vege room which makes them alot more supple where i can train them and make them go where i want and go from there cut what needs to be cut to let the light in and give it some space to get big
