Hey,
Newb here who is about to start a SoG grow. I have read alot over the past month, and have found that ebb and flow can produce some quality yields. Combined with the fact that watering can be automated, I want to use the method. I understand the underlying concept (correct me if I am mistaken): A res that floods the tray, and the tray is drained back into the res. Here are some questions I had:
1. How often is the tray flooded/drained? Or do you leave the tray constantly flooding/draining?
2. I have seen grows with pots in the tray. I understand how the water gets to the plants if the plants are lying in just those pebbles, but how does it get to it if placed in pots? Does the water level reach over the pots?
3 (related to 2). Is it better to just stick my rooted clones into the pebbles or is it better to have seperate pots (planning 4 plants per sq ft, tangled roots can end up being a problem)?
Also, here are some non-hydroponic questions. Since I will be starting this operation from seedlings, I need to produce some mothers first. How long does it take the plant to reach sexual maturity? By this I mean how long before I can take cuttings, that once rooted, can be thrown directly into 12/12 and start flowering. I will be using feminised seeds from Green House (bought the Indica E pack), so my choices are White Widow, Big Bang, Himalya Gold, Cheese and El Nino. I need to pick 2 to throw into my cycle, right now I am thinking Big Bang (Greenhouse claims this to be a good SoG choice) and WW for potency.
Here is the overall plan:
1. Grow two mothers in a 2ftwidex2ftdeepx4fthigh grow box, create a bubbler system for clones.
2. Take 8 (4 from each mother) cuttings every two weeks and root/veg them in the bubbler (also in the mother box).
3. Move the clones into a 2ftdeepx4ftwidex4fthigh grow box, which will hold 4 small ebb and flow systems (each 2ftx1ft), under 3x 150w HPS (450w total).
4. After 8 weeks, harvest 8 plants every two weeks.
My target is 1g/w (4oz every two weeks, 0.5 oz per plant). Kinda high for a first grow, but its a target I would like to work towards.
I am sure there are some holes in my plan, which I hope to work out by the time the seeds get here (ordered from Attitude). I still have at least a month to figure out my flowering box, so any input will be greatly appreciated (and reps rewarded).
Thanks!
