ebb and flow Q

Im in the process of building an ebb and flow system for my next grow and was thinking if I just placed a 3in rockwool cube into my tray how would the roots grow wouldnt it stunt the growth if I just placed them in there with no where for the roots to go but down?

Oh also I know I have seen this like 1000 times but can't find it how high should you food the tray? I think I read like 2/3 or am I wrong? Thanks again.

do you have the rockwool cubes raised of the bottom of the tray? the roots will grow down, out everywhere but up and as long as theres plenty of room for them to grow you want have any probs with stunting as to your second ? i dont understand what youve written can you read it again to see if thats what you meant.

if you mean how high should the water level reach its about 1/3 the height of the cube.

yes I meant how much should I fill the tray up with. I didnt noticed I said food meant to say flood lol. Well I wanted to just place the cubes on the tray nothing under them but the tray will this cause problems?? Basicly like how mr green did it in his vids but without the hydroton like in his flowering room. If your not sure what I am talking about his vids are on youtube

have u ever tried putting a tab of water on a surface and use the RW to absorb the water. it could b a couple of drops and that RW will get it. so if basically ur just using RW 5 mins should be fine and once more hour before lights off. but heard RW holds too much water so i guess flood once and sit back to see when the plants wants it water/food again.
