DWC question.

So I've been getting ready to start another grow and want to simplify some stuff if possible. My main question is do I really need a air pump and stone? I have a 17gal rez and usually fill 10 gal of it with solution and that leaves a few inches of an air gap. I'm wondering if I only put 5 gallons in it and leave 6ish inches of an air gap will I need air in the solution itself? Not much different than NFT or flood and drain. I'm not willing to experiment on my crop just yet but surely someone can enlighten me. Thanks and Happy holidays

what you are talking about is a bucket of water that is sitting and will go stagnant as it is not moving and a plant suspended 6 inches above the water that will dry out and die.
that's an experiment doomed.
put your air pump and stone back in and your couple of inches of air gap a much safer way. too big a gap and your plant will suffer.
DWC is exactly as it says and totally different from NFT and ebb an flow

Didn't think about the stagnant water part good point thats why I ask lol. Thank you

I also meant the roots would be in the solution so they can drink just not as much. Well back to the pump and stone
