So i am pretty sure I had root rot. Plants got real droopy roots were brown. Temp stays at 70 in res and buckets. 15 gallon system. An 3 part nutes. So i emptied the res and buckets sterilized everything. Filled it all back up. No nutes just straight Heisenberg tea. Next day plants looked much better. But now there is brown sludge on the roots. Emptied everything again cleaned refilled with have strength nutes and 2 cups of tea. Brown sludge on roots again. Not sure what I am doing wrong. And yes I did clean all roots also

Home come your adding tea to DWC? Stick with the AN nutes.

I'm helping a guy thru root rot with his DWC and the doses of peroxide he was giving weren't stopping it so I told him he had nothing to lose at this point so double up the dose and either cure the plant or kill them. Happy to say he reported today that he's winning and new roots are starting to come in with the plants looking a lot better.

You can check it out here. I'm LabRat in the convo. 4 Strain DWC

Good luck!

Don't use the tea. RO water and the AN nutes is all I use. I chill mine and keep the temp at 65F. Rot just won't grow at that temp and I stopped using peroxide once I chilled my nutes..

I've never used any beneficial bacteria stuff and after 50+ DWC grows only had root rot twice and beat it with 35% food grade peroxide. Both times was before I had a chiller and from clones started in real dirt instead of soilless.

Try the bennies if you want but stay away from the teas.

Ok. Thanks for all the input gentlemen. I will try cleaning everything. And running some peroxide
Could you use some help getting the peroxide levels right and how to best get things back on track?

Can you get good food grade peroxide from a health food or hydro store? I buy it by the gallon as we use it for a lot of things around the house and with the chickens.

I've never used any products like that and find their use in straight hydro grows to be more bother than use from the results of reading many grows on various forums. With proper temps I haven't had root rot in a decade or more in DWC. Bugs belong in dirt IMHO but if it works for you by all means do what works best.

Found some on Ebay and so far only place that will ship to canada. Stuff is so damn concentrated so I think a small 8oz bottle will last me until it expires (it does expire right? is there a date on the bottles?) 16oz is only 10 buks more but no sense in getting it if I wont be able to use it.

0.5ml for a 60 gal system should do? Maybe I should rebottle and sell it locally so it not such a waste.

When I soaked them the other day I used 35% peroxide and used 10ml to 3 gallons. Should I also just pull off all the brown roots
Yeah. Take as many of the damaged roots off as you can. If you can lift the top away from the nutes it's better so you aren't dropping any in the nutes. Use a strainer to get any bits out then dose it good with 35% peroxide at about 4mls/L/qt every 24 hours. If you get 29% like the last gal I got increase the dose to 5mls/L.

3 days ought to kill everything off then do the same 36 - 48 hours later. The 36 would probably be better. New, white roots should be starting by then or shortly after.

Keep up a maintenance dose of 0.5ml/L twice a week and keep a sharp eye out in case it returns then a good shot should knock it back.

Almost forgot. Mix up a liter at the 4 or 5ml/L dose and pour it thru the net pots getting everything wet with it to kill off anything in them. Don't worry about the roots in the pots. Those are tough but because new roots may sprout near the bottom of the net pots or on the sides a bit of water poured thru 5 or 10 min later will help protect them.

You should be able to beat this. chair.gif

Good luck!

I get mine at a health food store or a hydro shop. It's a hazardous material as far as shipping goes so best to pick it up at a store. Phone around.

If you got a 50L tub and need to dose at 5ml/L or 250ml/dose even a liter won't last long. I got my last gal for $40Can.

0.5ML of this has the same concentration as a gallon of Hydroguard so just a 250ml bottle will probably expire before I can use it up.

Yep. I used that stuff on my last grow and it worked great. Saved me a bunch of money instead of hydroguard. I do also add a couple of other blends of beneficials so that I get a good flora going.
