DWC grow questions

Ok i am building a DWC in my closet for vegging but i have a few question.

First lets talk about germing the seeds. I have read on here that is is possible to germ directly in the DWC once the root comes out of the seed. Now i am extremly nervous about this step because i done have many seeds and i am hoping to get that female out of the few i have. What is the best method for this, should i just wet a paper towel, stick it un a dark place and wait or can i just put the seed right in the hrdroton? Any advice on this would be great. I have heard that when i germ i will have to pour water on the seeds for a while since they wont be long enough to touch the water yet, is that about right? I have seen several germ kits but i dont see the point in buying it cause i know there is a cheaper way to do these things, they have a heat mat and alll that good stuff but is it really the only way to do it?

Currently my DWC is setup in a 18 gallon container 4ft air stone with 2 air pumps (i will add another airstone and 2 more pumps this week), i have 5 holes for my netpots. I also have coco pots to go inside the netpots but i am wondering is that necessary will the roots be able to work its way thru it? I am thinking now that maybe i should setup another DWC on a smaller scale to use only for germing and cloning and just swith the plants over to the 18gl.

Ok now that i am only using this closet for vegging (will be using a tent for flowering) will it be necessary to have a intake and exhaust fans. I will be using 42w cfl's (i have a case of 12).

Please keep in mind i am only building and twerking the system for now so any advice would be great.

My creation is below, i am sure you guys have seen it before done by someone elso but here it is donr by me. Pretty simple 2 air pumps in the front attached to the air stone on the inside. I was thinking if i needed venalation i would just put a hole in the bottom of the closet and 1 at the top and put the fans in.

Please someone answer my questions and i am sure that i will have more, I have been puffing while i type so now i am buzzing and cant seem to remember the other things!

Damn gonna blow the lid off with all that air in there lol. Go buy an irrigation manifold or "hub" anda 150-200 gallon water pump. Run a feed line to each net pot. I would use hydroton instead of coco and put the beans in rockwool cube. Turn everything on and watch them grow. After that its merely a matter of. Changing water on time and maintaining ph. If u have any question u can stop by my journal in my signature and ask away or shoot me a pm. Ill be glad to help. Also read every damn post in the link posted above mine. Roseman and stinkbud are great wealths of knowledge just be respectful and they'll all but grow it for ya. Gl man!

Just had a brainstrorm! Now that i have a much better understanding of how to germ with this system let me go re twerk my set up. See you guys in about a week!

Good luck and let us know if you have any questions as you tweek. Roseman is the God of Ganja when it comes to helping newbies. You are in good hands.

Roseman's title precedes him, Mr. Ganja, if it wasn't for him, i'd have a couple seeds and nothing to show for it! The bubbleheads are here to help, just let them know. Good luck

First grows are learn only and the bud you get is the prize. After that you step on the gas and show them your ass and leave the dirtbags in their dust!

What do you guys think of this. . . So in reading my new bible (Roseman u r the shit) i have learned that while germing water pump with feeder tubes is an excellent way to get them roots going due to the constant water. Since that is the case i am now thinking that i should set up a small maybe 5gl tank for just germing. This tank will have the water pump (hopefully with 8-10 feeded tubes, keep them there for about 1 to 2 weeks since they do not need nutes for the first 2 weeks (correct me if i am wrong please). Then i should have good root growth, then i will put them over in the 18gl tub (straight DWC since by now i should have roots long enough to float in the tub) to veg out for about 2 months.

What retailer would i be able to find those water pumps i am not a fan of online purchases.

Hey this thing is coming together slowly but surley! I am not touching flowering for another 2 months, gotta go in slow incraments!

Thats it! I will make the purchases tonight and put to peices together. Once i get this together i post.

I know this will sound crazy but what is a ppm meter like what does the ppm stand for?

PPM stand for parts per million. It measures the strength of your nute solution as in how many parts of nutrients per million parts of water Sometimes they call it a TDS meter. TDS stand for total disolved solids.

I use this one after a couple of trial with the cheap ones. Cheap ones don't last.

Here's theh link to where I bought mine on e-bay. They are all around $55-60 and this one has lasted be 3 grows with no sign of a problem. I doubt whether a local store would have anthing but you can check pool and pet supply places.

So i went out to make a few purchases over the weekend but i think J i smoked on the way there may have messed me up a bit. My intentions were to get the water pump and get it hooked up to get this germ thing going and i ended up getting a Germ kit (i let the salesman talk me out of it ..im kicking myself now!). It came with a heat pad tray with about 70 inserts and a plastic cover. I soaked 5 starter cubes in ph balanced water, about 5.5 . 5.8 (i only have strips so thats an about range) stuck my 5 white widow seed in the cubes and put the cubes in the inserts. I have been misting the cover with water to keep the humidity up. I got a temp and humidity meter so what i did was put it inside the dome so i could keep a gauge of the temp inside the kit, the temp on the outside was about 75 f and on the inside it was about 95 f when i left this morning. How long does this usually take to sprout this way?

Now i am going to go back and get that pump this weekend cause i like the idea of the constant water drip cause then i never have to really wonder if i need to add water.

Below is the germ kit i got 2 42w cfl over top.

I also want to know what is better light cycle wise, some say 24/0 some say 18/6

I did not see that you have more pages for me to check out. But i did see the answer to my light question there!

BTW who pisses on thier plants......!

Hey this is my only outlet since i cant and wont talk to anyone in the real world about this! With that said hey i think i messed up in my first week, its cool though i got the rest of my life to get this right! I let the salesman talk me into that damn germ kit and i should have just did what Roseman said, germ in the paper towel and when the root appear then stick in the system. But nooooooooo i paid 30 buck for the germ kit, got some starter cubes and went to work. Saturday the 19th I let the cubes stay in the water for about 5 minutes and when i took them out i was like ok how am i supposed to get this damn water out, cant squeeze them cause that my mess up the flow on the inside. So ok i said we will see, so i droped in 5 white widow seds in ( i think 1 missed the hole and got lost in my carpet, who knows) I put that heat pad underneath and i try to keep the plastic lid misty w/water for the humidity. So ok Monday the 20th i go to work but i wanted to keep the closet at about 80f so i put in a fan to blow some air around but why i thout the timer meant it would cut off and cut back on, nope that thing went off and never came back on so by the time i get home the temp inside the dome was like 103f inside the lid (i got a thermo that has an inside room and outside room guage and i put it inside the lid to keep an eye on the temp and humidity) and like 89f on the outside...wow. So ok i was fooling around with it this morning and i realized that there is a rez inside of the tray that hold the inserts now that was not in the instructuion manual! So this is what i did today, i put some water in the tray not a lot but enough to coat the bottom and put the other tray back inside, got my fan back in there on med but set to blow at med sped the baclk to low speed. Now before i did this this morning i noticed the humidity rising very quickly it was like 25% when i woke up and by the time i left the house it was up like 38% so i hope that water trick is a good thing. Now it has only been... today makes 3 days but i hope i aint get my seed to wet to start with in them soaked starter cubes. If i did i have some bag seed that i will experiment w/next time because i only have 5 bubblelucious seeds left and i dont want to do bad with them. I should have experimented with the bag seed first but hey we live and learn. Roseman i did see where you said have patience so maybe im just jumping the gun a little or alot! I think i will just stick to this thread and post stuff from the begening of my journey to the end.

BTW i tried to up the Bubblehead logo in my sig but it is not appearing. It has the image and it says it is my sig but its not in my post. I want to be in the club!
