DWC build

So like so many others im tired of soil and want to go hydro. DWC seems the best way to go for now, and i plan on making my own setup. I want to harvest biweekly with SOG under 1000W HPS. So im thinking about making 4 rez's (one for each stage of growth) and packing them with as many clones as possible. All the setups i have looked at with totes and such have at least a few inches between between the net pots. I was wondering if there is a reason for this, and if the pots could be touching to maximize output. Im assuming that even with a few inches between pots, the roots from different plants will get all tangled up anyway, so i dont see the need for this wasted growspace. will clones be too crouded if the pots are touching, and if so how far apart is the recommended distance between the pots??
thanks :bigjoint:

so yea... one day, 35 veiws, and at least 8 bowls later no one knows ? Well now that im high i figure the pots are 3" across so touching pots would give only 3" per plant branch space. i never grew clones before so im not sure how much space there gonna need. Since i plan on building this i want to get it right the first time. So yea, any ideas or suggestions would be great at this point

depends how you want to do it, will you have smaller bubblers for when the plants are seedlings? and you can just transfer the pots to the bigger bubblers as they grow? you may as well cram as many in there as possible, leave barely an inch between the edge of each pot...

yea thats what i was thinking. found some great 50 gallon rez's that would be great but the fuckers are 20 bux a piece. As far as what im doing with rooting the clones is another issue that will prob be mostly trial and error since i have not delt with clones before, but the plans are to root them nice nice in peat pods and then on to flower.

The 3 inches between pots would produce smaller plants....I've never grown SOG, but if your growing one cola per plant and not trying to grow a bush per plant...I dont see why 3x3 wouldnt work...except root mass, you'll end up with more roots in your buckets than nutes....

I've been using 5 " nets ( 2 ) per 12 gallon totes and 4 in 16 gallon totes. The 2/12 g's produce bigger buds.(2 0z per plant) to the 5 oz I got from 4 plants. More root mass = bigger buds. Figure that to your 3x3, you may have more grow sites...but per resivoir your overall harvest will be smaller the more you try to cram into one space. JMHO

well i took the time to figure this out on paper. Im considering surface area of the lid and # of 3" POTs that can be put there. The 50 GAL tote i will buy im guessing is 1'x3'. So yea three 3" pots touching will be 9 inches, so if spaced out evenly i should be able to fit 3 pots in the 1' width with about an inch between them and the sides. As far as length, i will just say width(3) can be multiplyed (by 3) to get the length (9). So on a 50 gal rez, with 1'x3' dimesions for the lid, my calculations suggest i should be able to squeeze 27 ( W[3] x L[9]= 27 ) Clones in that area. The other reason that the 1x3 rez is attractive to me is that my 1000W light grows a six square foot space, and four 1x3 rez's would fit perfectly for the SOG and 2 week harvests. But this doesnt seem right to me because i know 27 clones will produce at lease a pound, and that seems a little much for 1000W every 2 weeks. so yea, any ideas ?
