DWC bubbleponics system

I have a home made bubbleponics system that is creating huge bubbles in the res. These large"bubble bath" size bubbles are pushing my seedlings roots out of the water. today I looked in the res and saw that two of my four root systems were dried to the side of the net pod. The plants still are getting water and oxygen. I am wondering if anyone else has ever had this problem?
i think my only solution is to raise the water level in order to demise all the large bubbles.

........you using a air stone or what?<----why are the bubbles so big? Is your water level below your basket? If your using hydroton I 'd put the h2o level up on the net basket a inch or so; just make sure your bubbles break under there...... From the sounds of it you just need a good air stone(those nice heavy round ones that are the shape of a lid for a can of spray paiint)....... And anyway, it sounds like your getting enough splash from your bubbles to keep your medium damp= roots will grow. Just if your using rockwool dont let it get more than damp........

Good Luck!

I have four 1'foot air stones with a lot of air pumping through it. Could it be something with the nutrients? i am using organic nutes in addition to superthirve; my water source is distilled water.

also the water level in my res is low because i have the bubbleponics system, so i have water running through the hydroton at a slightly heavy pace

Four one footers, huh....... How big is this thing and how many plants are in it? I 'd want to see what the plants look like before I said it's not from nute, but I dont think so. And someone else will have to chime in as far as whether or not you may be over watering from 'a slightly heavy pace.' You may want to research using distilled h2o with organic nutes....... I know in a lot of situations you dont want/need distilled.......
Hopefully someone will come along that knows more on this than myself........

thanks,
That would be very interesting to know if working with distilled water isn't that way. I was always under the impression if you start for a black slate than you know what you put into the water.

I just changed the watering cycle and am currently working through different schedules.

And I still have not figured out why there are so many huge bubbles in my tank. It is obviously coming from the air stones but don't seem to ever pop.

yeah, my pump is rated at around 800 gallons an hour. I have all leads to the plants turned way down. it is a slow trickle as of right now on a 15 min on and 15 min off. The plants seem to like it a little more than a continuous flow.

I am just beginning to wonder if my organic nutes (roots organic Buddha grow, trinity, and kelp extract) are causing some sort of surface tension thus my large bubbles in the res. It really sucks because the roots of my tiny seedlings are just getting pushed up to the side of the net pods and left to dry out. it is really sad.

any way i will just go smoke to ease the stress! P.B.R. ever heard of it.... the devils lettuce is coming from Rochester, MN.

Root abuse nice...If u lowered ur water levels enuff so that u could leave ur aire as is u would be better off sir more air the better....
I drop my levels a couple inches in my tubes once i get healthy roots in the water..

Hope that helps.

thanks for the response, but as much as it is root abuse; I have a one inch gap between water level and net pods. This is where all the bubbles from my air pump and four footlong air stones breaks, causing a nice spray to hit my roots. However this is also where the bubbles seems to collect and morph into larger ones. and when those break my seedlings roots get fucked with. they are forced into submission against the net pods and left to dry!!

Dish soap wouldn't help would it? or what breaks down bubble on the surface ???

i think i could run into 100 more off sets and still enjoy hydroponics and its ripe fruits

no, I don't think you want to add dish soap to the water man. It would lower the surface tension but soap kills insects by not allowing them to oxygen, I wouldn't want to take that kind of risk with my roots.
