hi guys n gals, my first crop is about to be cut down and i need some advise about drying them out. do they need to be in complete darkness?!?!? and does it need to be all the time?? i have 9 plants to dry but am a bit limited on space. i could use the shed i grow them in but there wiil be quite a lot of light when i have the grow bulb on, as i dont close the door on the grow room i have in there. Can i wrap them in newspaper or something when i have the lamp on and leave them open and ventilated when the lamp is off?? this would be 12/12, would that be enough time to ventilate them properly as they dry??
Any help and advise will be a big help and greatly appreciated .:joint:
thanx in advance
:peace:

ok im a newb but let me see here, your trying to dry out the buds right? if i member right when reading this guys thread i think you just hang em and let em air dry for like 24 hours then you put em in like a glass jar a that seals tight for a couple days to let the inside dry out how ever you like your buds, idk if im right but if anything me posting will bump your thread up so more exp people can reply.

it depends on how big the buds are to determine how long to air dry. the average will be 4-5 days in a 70ish degree normal humidity room. higher temps will shorten this time. you can hang dry or lay them on a screen and the less light, the better.

when the outside feels dry or even crispy, throw them into the jars. it will feel pretty dry, but dont worry, the bud will pull the moisture from the middle. it will be your job to open the jars once or twice a day and even empty the jar to rearrange the buds. the less handling the better but they need the fresh air to keep mold at bay because it can be particularly nasty to your moist buds.

if they feel too moist, you can even leave them laying out in the open for an hour or two. pay attention to them for a good week or two because even 1 day without opening and too much moisture will cause mold.

youll get better at this as you go but you must have patience. i used to not believe this, but the buds will smoke and taste and deliver a much better high if you can wait at least a month from cutting down. the longer the better!

good luck.

thanx alot everyone, :peace:just one thing though, is wraping them in news paper a viable way to block the light??Can they be open and ventilated half the time( 12 hours) and wraped to hide the light half the time??
thanx again

I might harvest mine this weekend, it will be my first time too.

I’m hanging mine in my closet which won’t be 100% dark all the time but will be dark-ish. I think this will be fine for drying them out. I know people say that light will degrade THC of which I have no doubt, but I’d imagine they probably degrade most in direct light/sunlight. Drying somewhere out of direct light I’m sure will be fine! Only one way to find out though.

I think depending on the size and density of your buds (and temps) it will take around 5-10 days to dry whilst hanging up.
