Drying - how dark does it have to be?

Just wondering, if I shade an area of my grow tent and hang buds to dry there (there is another plant finishing in there), will that be ok, or does it have to be *totally* dark? I'm thinking a cardboard box with a couple of holes in the sides for airflow.
 
Dark is ideal but not necessary. I wouldn't set them under a grow light to dry either. Take your clothes out of the closet and hang your buds on the hangers for few daysbongsmilie trim them first.
 
Thanks folks. It might get a little warm in there, but I intend on putting some foil shiny side up over the box to reflect the radiant heat from the light. Hopefully this should keep it under about 80 degrees.

Do you mean don't put them directly under the light, or are you referring to me putting them in a box under the light? Trouble with using a closet is the smell. Using the grow tent means all the smell is going through the carbon filter and out the chimney.
 
You have to do what you have to do . I like to keep my drying at 40% humidity very slight breeze and dark.

I'm in the same boat. One plant will finish a week earlier than the other. It's the first and last time I will grow more than one strain, cuz what I'm about to do is going to be very annoying!

I believe that you don't need total darkness, but you shouldn't have direct light. I'm going to do a whole-plant dry, looking for about 10 days if it can work out. I'm planning of hanging the plant in the bathroom above the tub. That way I can keep the door closed and monitor humidity at 55%.

It will mean showering at the gym.

But if that looks like it won't work out, then I'm going to use your method, since no one seems to be squeaking that it will result in too much degradation of THC.
 
Cool dark place is where you want it. You don't want high humidity because you don't want mold. You don't want light cause you don't want your thc to degrade.

For small amounts of like 3-6 oz I use a drying box I made. Its vertical and has a small fan at the top and there are lines all inside for the hangers and the popcorn buds I scatter across the bottom. With this box I can fully dry 4oz in around 6 days.
 
You can dry directly under the sun if that is what you wish..

I used to do exactly as you'd do. I grew in a small cupboard and there was a shelf that the hps hung from, and i'd run wires above this shelf and hang my branches from there. Never had an issue.
 
I dry mine in a homemade box with 2 built in fans just in case the humidity get to high and to have a lil air circulation when needed also have a little screen down in the bottom for the popcorn stuff. It does absolutely great best of all it didn't cost me a damn thing to make it lol!!

main how long you drying. Keep in the place where is 15-20 degrees celsies and if you want bigger wight and keep this long time then keep in the place where is 50%-60% mositure not less then 50% and better nomore 20 degrees celsies. then you can drying 7 until 14 days, 2 weeks is better. slow dry and better is 15 degrees tempreture. Then drying keep slow, thats good. and after then you know keep humidity but dont let mildew. and dont let dry to dry ifyou want to keep your stafflonger time and smoke better weed + heavy weight
You need to keep dark place but not black dark. can be litle lightning but just litle. And ofcorse ventilation is necesary.
