Drug test; privileged medical record?

Question; how is it that your blood sugar, cholesterol levels and any other information about whats in your body, medical history, et et is considered private and/or "medical" information but THC levels in your blood can be disseminated to whomever the administer of that test wishes to let see it?

Reason I'm asking is that if for instance someone submits to a employers drug test, what then prevents or at least controls the dissemination of that test result to whomever ask for it; and what legal constraints exist to protect someones privacy?

Just wondering what elements/compounds of someones blood chemistry makes up "private/medical" information and what criteria determines what the assorted governments consider protected legal information

when I go for my DOT physical they check my sugar levels in my blood, along with a full physical work up. this allows me to drive a company vehicle. for a preemployment drug screening you sign the right to your results away to your employer when you fill out the paperwork.

interesting: I wonder if that lil clause is worked into the fine print for many drug test...I also wonder how broadly that can legally be applied? like for instance word of mouth transmissions from those privy to the test results, or results made publically available

it may be something like those with a "right or need to know". HR director may have a right to know but not the secretary who types things up all though she may read it, she cannot disseminate it to anyone. HR director may legally tell supervisor but has to do it in such a way that no one can overhear the conversation. Neither could probably legally leave a drug test result laying around where it might be viewed by someone else. Guess it all depends

No names please; but a BIG employer in my area now screens for tobacco; a legal substance...in this state there is little limit to what a employer can get away with now that the right wingers are in control (and believe it or not, I actually think a lil "right swing" is necessary at times)....still, its getting a lil totalitarian: no fat people, no smokers, and no drug users!

Its perfectly legal to test for nicotine..any state can do it..most big businesses do
Cheaper insurance etc also what the job entails....have you never had a pre employment drug test or even randomized? You sign all kinds of stuff...they wont even release the info to you..its the person paying for it...I've never had to pay for my own test........no they can't give it out to whoever

This thread is kinda ridiculous man....imo

in the 50's communist were blacklisted, not a stretch to see weed smokers, tobacco users and anything else "they" deem unacceptable to be used in a similar vein....

so "ridiculous"? not really; all depends on what you consider privacy, and informational leverage

I suppose its a choice to work wherever you want, but if drug test, nicotine test, background checks, credit reports and all that shit becomes status quo to collect, and being in anyone's hands and at their discretion to disseminate however they wish doesn't bother you, then yeah its ridiculous...

,,,,personally, anytime my DNA, credit reports, medical history and/or anything about me is in someones hands at their disposal, then yeah it bothers me...
