Drugs Taught Me Metric!
Alright, I have been journaling so far on my own and have been taking pictures. My cab is a work in progress BUT for the most part is finished... I just got my lazy ass around to uploading pictures and putting this all on here to hopefully help others and myself. I have read TONS of information here and elsewhere that has helped me go the route I have gone so far. Right now I am on Day 10 of Veg. Before I put current pictures up though let me show you what I am using for my Veg./Flower Cab for this initial grow. Oh and let me apologize now for the picture quality.. I am using my phone for right now. Any Comments or Suggestions, feel free to speak up. Oh and also... the Alum. Foil is just a temp thing until I got a couple more bucks to blow for some Mylar.. I will probably be putting up the Mylar around 1/26/08 which should help a lot.
This is the dresser I converted into my Grow Cab. This picture is closed up and the only light that gets out is that little bit on both sides of the bottom of each drawer front. It wont be hard to black it out but I haven't got around to it yet. The bottom 3 drawer fronts just pop right off giving me access to the grow cab. I left the top drawer alone with the back and bottom removed so it can still slide back and forth.
Here is a pic of the cab with the lights on and everything pulled off for complete access. As you can see since my top shelf is "fixed" I will be moving my plants closer to the light by means of stacking shit underneath the res tank. My humidifier is the thing in the middle on the bottom between the paint cans. The air purifier sitting on top my dresser IS plugged in and sort of masks the sounds of the fans inside the cab.
Here is a pic of the 3 drawer fronts. I vacuum taped the edges (same as weather stripping) and put a couple drawer catches on each side to snap on/off the dresser face frame. As you can see I left the sides on the top one so the drawer slides. I did this in case it got to hot in the top drawer.. which is doesn't at all.. So I may make the top drawer like the other 3.
Another pictures of the drawer fronts popped off and the rails put in. They were originally stapled on so they can pull right off and you can put them back on using the same staple holes... works good and sticks tight.
This is a view of the top drawer were all electrical and HPS "ballasts" are. Threw a couple little dirt pods up there.. lol forgot to move them.. not there any more. Both of those lights you see in this picture are 70w HPS lights purchased at Lowe's for about $50 bucks each. The exhaust fan is also purchased at Lowe's for about $13 bucks. Only 50 CFM but does great. I made a Carbon filter to fit in there but I don't need it on yet. I am planning to get a 4" Inline fan to also push out the carbon filter. This 50 CFM just doesn't put out enough when the Carbon filter is attached.
And for the guts. As you can see there is a small Tote style bubbler set-up there on a couple paint cans as mentioned before. Humidifier in the middle. Right now I got 4 plants in there from Seedlings. I don't believe I can grow all 4 to their max potential in here but some may be males. I only plan to grow 2 but I will try all 4 if they are all Females. You also see up top in this image my light system. The two HPS lights are on each side. There is also two 200w Equivalent CFL lights in the middle. I think they are like 40w CFL's. I will sum everything up at the bottom of this first post.
A little more of a close up to see exactly whats going on in there. The HPS bulbs are still kind of hard to see but if you look close enough.. they are there.
Just a FEW of the supplies purchased. There were def. a lot more than this but this was what I had at the time to make a neat picture. btw.. you only see the pH test kit in this pic cause the Digi PPM meter is on its way and should arrive about mid week.
Ahh what the hell, just one more pic of the setup. Just with the top drawer front to the grow chamber popped off. Shit is bright in that small space.
Ok, so now you know what I am working with here. I plan to set a small Veg chamber up when Clones are ready from this grow. For this first grow I will just be using GOOD bag seed. Will order genetics after I know I wont fuck them up. NOW- to sum up a few things.
This is my first real attempt at growing. I have messed around before but never harvested anything worth mentioning. Due to money this first grow will be done all with 2700k lighting. Next grow will have a Veg cab with 6400k lighting or whatever the blue spectrum is. This is also my VERY first attempt at Hydro, all seems well so far.
My dresser measures about 32" wide, 15" deep, with about 27" of GOOD grow height. There are 2 70w HPS lights (each at about 6000 lumens) and 2 40w 2700k spectrum CFL's (200w Equivalent each at about 2,700 Lumens Each). That totals about 17,500 Lumens for 3 Sq. Ft. of space. Broken down to about 5,700 Lumens per Sq. Ft. With the current fan setup you see in the pics above I keep temps right at 75 or so. It seems to stay about 10 degree's warmer than room temp and my room usually stays around 65 degrees. I have to turn my fan inside on low to keep temps where I want sometimes.
If anyone has any questions or comments on anything let me know. I want to know what people think of this- I put what seems like a lot of time... and more money than I thought into this. Like I said I will be getting Mylar up in there within 1 weeks time from this day. Grow Pics in next post. On Day 10 of Veg.
