okay so i clicked the link and it's actually the Texas/South Carolina (mentality) syndrome of draining pool/lake where tragedy occurs.

they wanted to drain the lake that Susan Smith used to drive her car in to kill her children to deter others from doing same.

Mcghee's conclusion is simplistic, naive and fails to address the root cause. For instance, the root cause of a dysfunctional political system, is, it IS a political system.

That is to say, that "politics" itself, being an involuntary institution reliant on using force against otherwise peaceful people can never escape what it is as long as it remains an involuntary institution.

The problem isn't somehow figuring out how to polish the turd of politics to make it less stinky and seemingly less turd like. The problem is idiots thinking that an inherently flawed system can somehow be tinkered with and it will not be inherently flawed if the things that are inherently flawed remain. I.E. , the involuntary nature of politics.

Racial issues and the removal of freedoms that accompanied them for many people are interesting, but they aren't solved by political means which are reliant on removal of freedom / choice for the individuals affected. To believe so, is to pray to the god of circular logic.

Equality of oppression, which is what "civil rights" rendered, is not equality in the freedom sense and yes I am talking over your head if your ability to "reason" is limited to spouting platitudes and virtue signaling.

Lots, but we aren’t as divided as a nation and we never proclaimed ourselves to be the leaders of the free world. You gotta take the good with the bad.

I’d love to talk about Canada’s history of racial injustice but it appears I’m the only one. Even my fellow citizens here are indifferent. I gave up starting threads about Canada’s government and its failings that got nary a nibble.

So, don’t hate the player, hate the game.

I think it's cliche American ego and narcissism to do the us=awesome/they-awful thing. You, and I mean literally, you, could wipe out congress and choose whomever you want for whatever position, and you'd have roughly equal, or worse, dysfunction. The only difference is that it'd be the dysfunction you like/prefer and would thus be invisible to you. You see the exact same thing across various states, where each state has their own dumb stuff, but they like to make fun of the people in some other state, then the other state is doing the same thing. The best we can hope for, in regard to our personal political satisfaction, is to match our own personal dumb with the dumb of those around us, but.....the dumb is still there just the same.

You are implying that an attack on a person can be solved by an entity (government) that gains it's dominance by threatening to attack people if they don't bow to it's presumed authority. There's that circular argument again.

Also, "sovereign citizen" is an oxymoron.

The best I hope for is it will become common knowledge that voluntary relationships between human beings are superior to those which are involuntary. Politics is an involuntary institution, which is the source of it's dysfunction.

Rights cannot be protected by an entity which owes its existence to a violation of rights. It's impossible.

Yes, I agree, the dumb is still there.

Hmmmm, I think I see where you're going with this, but please correct me. There's a new segment of right leaning people that don't like Trump(but really they like Trump) and internally they want to see the events of January 6th continue, but want to do it externally for a non-Trump reason so they don't give the appearance of being Manson/Jones follower loonies. They're self-described as basically a modern functional version of anarchist.

I'd like to discuss this separately, but let's start with, please let me know what events you have in mind where the American people had documented rights, then those rights were violated for the purpose of creating our governing framework. I ask it this way specifically because I suspect your angle has nothing to do with American Indians and has a very selective post-Indian grievance in mind.

It's a Trump thing, we were surprised and shocked by your rapid descent into Hell. Now that Joe is running the show American politics is starting to become boring, as it should and not a life and death struggle. Canadians are not too different than Americans in terms of demographics, and unlike most others we share TV networks among other things, kinda like being in the same Livingroom.

I try to steer clear of American policy and focus on social issues and Canuck's thread does that, I posted this article on another thread before because it encapsulates the problems with America and their true causes. The issues with America are more social than political, the politics is a reflection of the social conditions and it is gross. The current campaign of voter suppression laws by state GOP governments is an example of this. When 40% of your voting population turns full blown fascist and tosses the constitution and democracy in favor of a wannabe king it get's folks interest.

Fortunately you have responsible government now, but the social issues that distort American society and policy remain. I don't have any interest in the details of the stimulus, or immigration policy (as long as it's normal), but I do have an interest in America remaining a liberal constitutional democracy. Oh and Trump being Putin's puppet and killing a half million Americans with malicious stupidity pissed us off too, we generally like Americans and don't like to see them mass murdered or fucked over.

I didn’t see where you posted anything about this before but I read the article this morning and thought it was worthy of sharing. I thought it was an interesting conclusion and will probably pick up the book.

The purpose of the thread was to share an interesting article. Nothing more.

I posted it on another thread yesterday.

I thought it made an important point and one that defines many of the policy problems Americans have. 40%+ of the voting population does not want to form a sharing community with those they consider to be enemies, the "other". This is reflected in how the education system is organized and why America is an outlier when it comes to healthcare, social programs and rates of incarceration. It is the core issue in America and for over 40% of the population it is the only issue, Trump focuses and symbolizes it. White people screw themselves over this shit and it allows the 1% to avoid paying their fair share, they don't really care about taxes any more than they really care about Putin or Jesus for that matter.

Few things can jerk a persons chain so hard that their head pops off, fear, hate, racism and bigotry are among them.
