Downstem vs built in diffuser and bowl piece

Seems I’m having difficulty finding my next bong. I like the classic style with the bong downstem and bowl but that seems too complicated and too much construction compared to bongs with a built in diffuser which are often 18mm vs 14mm.

Have you guys found any advantage to the smaller 14mm bowls with a downstem vs the 18mm bowl and built in diffuser. Seems less parts and less chance at breaking the downstem.

Also has anyone proven the advantage of multiple percs? Seems whenever I add an ash catcher that water is the only water that gets dirty so it almost seems additional Perks would just add drag.

With the millions of options I really could use expert advice to help me narrow

Just make a pipe out of an old PBR can.

Most on the spot thing I've ever found to smoke out of was in 9th grade history class right before lunch. I had pot but me or my friend had nothing to smoke out of. We used the foil peel off lid thing from an apple sauce container to make a one hitter to smoke in the welding tent in the shop class. Welding area was so ventilated and stinky from welding smells it was the place to go
