Not really a problem per se, at least I dont think , just wondering if anyone has seen this effect.
I germinated seeds from a cross of Purple Kush and Afghan I did about 6 years ago using the container/paper towel and distilled water method. I also germinated some of the pure bred afghan seeds, about 12 afghan and 18 of the cross germinated successfully out of roughly 40 seeds total. Actually it was a bit more but ran out of cups so just tossed them.
After potting them (soil) I noticed that a handful of each have presented with double stalks. What I think is happening is that the hypocotyl or radicle has bifurcated due to a horizontal orientation in the soil. I normally just stick the seeds in soil and let them do their thing, but due to the age of the seed I wanted to only pot known viable ones. Hence the paper towel method. Since both strains did this and I have used these seeds in the past I am doubtful it is genetic, I have never seen this before and the only thing I did different is the germination method. Beyond that I can only guess that light exposure during the potting process could be the reason, but that seems less likely to me.
Now I am wondering if this is something I could do deliberately, but anyway, just wondering if anyone has seen this before.
sorry for the grainy photo, but you get the idea
