Does Anyone Know How To Keep Your Soil Moist?

I am currently using a grow box and the soil i am using keeps on drying fast causing my plants to die and the stem and leaves to get stale. Does anyone know a cheap way to keep the soil moist? ie plastic bags etc?
 
humidity as well playes a good part on how fast the soil dries up. Also the heat from your lights. I'd do the same as what Paradox said and raise your lights.
 
i mean u could rig up a drip system to be automated so u dont really have to check it. but i doubt ur trying to set that up. just water the soil when u need to and raise ur humidity and lower your heat like has been suggested. i love the name IWANTTHATPURPLESTUFF. makes me laugh thinking about chappelle lol
 
If your humidity is ok you shouldn't have this problem.

Low humidity causes stress on plants. I recommend 50-60% humidity until the final 2 weeks of flowering. At this point, the humidity should be lowered as much as possible to encourage the plant to seal and protect itself with additional resin.

If you still have this problem there is something called Soil Moist. They are polymer crystals that expand 40 times their size in water and slowly release over time.

You can buy 2lbs of this stuff on ebay for $20 including shipping.

I water relatively often and lessor amounts (initially every second day, now close to wice a day) and I also in the beginning put white stone on top of my soil and that kept the top layer moisture for longer. my temps are 65-75 (lights off/on) and humidity have been consistently 20-30%....though since into 5th week flower now with substantially more watering/feeding the humidity has been 35-40% ..... seems to have worked well so far.
 
Thank you all for replying and the suggestions are really helpful. I will try to raise the lights but I have one more question. How can I raise the humidity in my grow box???
 
try to have your humidity at 50-60% that should make a difference. whats your room temprature? How close are your plants to the light? How much water r u giving them?
 
Well if its a small area a pot of water with a good surface area should help raise the humidity a little.I had the same problem with my grow dryed out quickly on the top soil so i did the pot of water and adjusted the fan so it hit the top part of the plants and not so much the soil.

I use moss i got of a trr and put it by the base of my plant, so the soil doesnt try out and the moss holds water for my plant
 
you want your medium to dry up between watering/feeding. it sounds like you have too many roots sucking water out of your medium. for water retention in your medium you want to use vermiculite not perlite. perlite will retain a certain amount of moisture, but that's primarily a job for vermic.
