does anyone here use soil bags instead of pots

ive seen pictures of people using a whole bag of soil with a plant put in it.

say i bought a 25litre bag, couldn't i just cut it in half, and put 2 plants each in 12.5 litre bags, and cut some holes in the bottom.

would save messing around with pots.

would they be steady when standing up? does anyone else do this?

trying to cut the bags in half might be a tad messy...

but i have bought 20 lb. bags of soil, opened one end and transplanted clones into them. "in the bag" soil grow. I had some good fortune with Hyponex potting soil (and it is on the cheap end, but seems to only be seasonally available at Walmart and such). Though it wouldn't hurt to try to mix in some hydrated lime by hand in each bag... you could probably water in the lime as well.

4 foot tall plants grew just fine. no tipping over or such. i wouldn't poke holes in the bottom of the bags, just be careful not to overwater. you will inevitably do so on a couple, so just have a sink or something nearby so that you can drain the bag when you've done so and keep an eye on signs of overwatering like drooping leaves and such.

good luck. you can deffinitely save some time and money this way.
