Do your family and/ or friends know that you smoke and if they do, what do they think of it????

Do you think it changes other peoples perception of you and therefore they treat you differently?

Why do people treat others differently when they find out they do marijuana?

Is it because:

1/there is such a social stigma to it:confused:?Not yet socially acceptable?:confused:
2/they don't know much about it except what the media wants them to know, which isn't usally good?:confused:
3/ weed smells funny?:confused:
4/they're scared of the unknown?:confused:
5/ they tried it themselves and it had an adverse affect on them and they think everyone feels that way when high?:confused:
6/it's illegal ? (ha..minor detail):roll::confused:
7/wtf????? :-|:confused:

...please feel free to add on any other opinions about the topic.

 
1 and 2. to the mcmax - they just don't know. Also, they meet people who do harder drugs and hear that they also smoke ganj, making it just as bad as the other drugs... just more uninformed people.
 
well I live in Oregon.

the town I live in, I can SWEAR when I say that about 90% of the community is legal/not legal. smokes pot.

My family, friends, Girlfriend, and girlfriends family know I smoke pot.
They treat me no different then their other family members.
I have never seen smoking pot as "socially degenerative". Smoking for years.

It really depends on several things.
 
everybody knows i smoke. and they think i do more than just weed but all i do is smoke weed and drink (beer sometimes. )
 
Most of my close family knows I smoke.
My three sisters smoke weed (2 daily and 1 on and off), thier boyfriends/husband also smoke weed on a daily basis. My dad and mom used to smoke weed but then my dad stopped after my mom died.

In Hawaii weed is very socially excepted with majority of the people you meet. I would go with number 2 because most of my friends that don't like me doing it don't know anything about except that its illegal and its a drug.
I hate it when I get judged by others because im doing something illegal that they have never tried before but yet they drink(underage) almost every weekend. Whats the difference there?

I believe it changes people perception about you if they know nothing about it. If they are smart and keep an open mind then they will realize that it truly is harmless and that what I do is my own business.
 
My mom got all the kids in the neighborhood high for their first time when I was in 9th grade.. I think my whole family are heads. In my area, everyone and their mom smokes and/or sells. If you go to visit someone, or hang out, you gotta have bud with you or you'll never hear the end of it.

I always find it strange when I come across people who don't smoke or think it's a bad thing.
 
My family knows I smoke for medical reasons. My mother worries now that I'm in TX because of the lack of a medical statute.

My friends all know I smoke, my co-workers are the only people I keep it from.
 
My family doesn't really know the extent that I smoke it, but know I ahve and do on occasions. My brother smokes with me all the time, we are pretty close. All of my friends smoke it and or grow it, so of course they know. Only a few co-workers know. I tend to keep it myself, as I have professional occupation. It is really none of their business. Cause like you Lacy I can feel the stigmas. However I know many professionals that smoke it. Say for instance, I am attending a huge conference this week and most of the people will be smoking, drinking and other heavy stuff. Here in Canada, weed is not too hug of a deal, it is everywhere. I can walk through my hood, and can spot the smokers. The garage doors are open a crack from the bottom, and you can get a hint of the aroma coming from there. In a 4 block radius, I can spot at least 10-12 smokers and growers. Pretty cool eh?
 
its def 1 and 2 and no1 in my family smokes, but i think my dad knows ive done it but i know he smokes cept he prob dont want me to, lol i c his weed in his room all da time and he thinks idk he smokes lmao.. just all my friends no and they smoke also so they dont care =)

just joking. i can remember the time (many years ago) at the age of 18 she visited the apt where i lived unexpected and i was caught red handed/eyed....lol

i think everyone should try it once then compare. :peace:
 
Yeah chiceh. That is very cool. I told my mom and our neighbours about a month a go that I smoked and grew for medical reasons and they were all cool about it except my mom didn't tell my dad and I had them over for the weekend.

Picture this:
Sitting there eating a late Thanksgiving dinner with Turkey/stuffing the works, honey ham, table all set and 5 huge plants out on the deck in full view.
My mom didn't think my dad should know so it was a bit tense. Now I'm not sure if I should tell him but I want to.
10 to 12 growers and smokers is pretty cool Chiceh 'cause then it seriously reduces your chances of getting busted. :mrgreen:

I know some people that are very judgemental. This one person in particular that I did tell for personal reasons but I knew she wouldn't accept it either. She says that it doesn't matter to her but I can tell that her attitude has changed towards me. I expected that but it's sad because I've known this person for about 10 years now and really like her. They live close by but now I don't see her much. She's very closed minded about the topic itself.:neutral:

all my cousins indulge in a little smoke at lesat once every while, i smoke everyday and ive smoke with 3 of my cousins and my dad. ive smoked up with my friends mom many times. my mom drove me to get soil and more perlite the other weekend.
 
Hey Craca. Hawaii! Sweet!

I feel the same way as you do. Nobody liked ot be judged but to be judged about something as trivial as smoking weed I think is sad and because most people are just uneducated about it.

I like the concept of 'what i do is my business' I am finally starting to embrace that idea after years of feeling guilty.
This site has made that change.

You gotta tell us more about Hawaii man. From what I have heard about it, it's a small piece of heaven. :mrgreen:

Yeh man I guess it is a little piece of heaven. Before I left for college all I did was smoke with my friends, go to the beach when a swell came, smoked some more, and just did that again and again. Good Times!

Smoking and the beach is a win win situation. Never smoked much bud outside of Hawaii but I am trying some out in Oregon right now.
 
Maybe that's it 'cause I LOVE the water. The idea of being an island surrounded by water has always intrigued me.

my dad doesnt want me doing it because
it costs money
its illegal
he doesnt want me to fail school

thats about it...
other than that most people probably do think less of me when they find out i smoke but probably not for long
