Do you use peat pucks?

When you clone do you let your peat pucks sit in water? Or just spray them every day? I've been putting water in the bottom of the tray but the plants don't root and the leaves turn yellow and die. Too much water?
 
nope, never keep them in water, in fact dont even spray them every day, if they are wet all the time the cutting will just drink the water around the stem and survive, not sending roots out to find water, you have to saturate them, put the cutting in and keep it in a humidity dome, open and spray the dome every day but never the puck, unless you notice its really drying out.
 
I wasted 8 seed in peat pucks. Got ONE very late, and weak sprout.

nope, lesson learned. And I wouldnt do peat pots either. I had several in peat pots, and then transplanted. Long story short, the walls of the peat pots did NOT compost as advertised, the roots were all tangled and impeded by the peat walls.

Just good old Fox Farm Ocean Forest from now on.
 
they are the best seed starters i have found, i have never had a seed not pop. are you sure you used good seeds?
 
As for the seeds I have heard that the pucks are too acidic for sprouting, because I have also had delays with seeds when using the pucks. I just stick my seeds straight in tha dirt
 
you have to water the peat pellet once in a while surely?
i understand not keeping them in the water, but every couple of days or so you have to soak them ??

They do compost but it takes a while and moisture helps.

And the roots will grow through the walls before they compost.

if they are in humidity domes they shouldnt dry out too much at all, mine never did. if you think they are getting too dry water them i guess, but your success rate might go down and it might take longer for the ones that will root to root.
 
This is my first grow using them and they worked. In the humidity dome it shouldn't dry out. Once I put mine in my box they would dry out so I just watered them a bit with a dropper to make sure they were moist.
 
I use em for sproutin germed seeds with 100% success as well. They do dry out on me but a quick mist of h20 keeps it moist enough till i repot em.
 
i use them for clones, have forever. i don't mist or water them, they sit in a dome for 14 days, and all have roots. during the summer months, i'll lose on or two out of every couple hundred, but those are always weak cuttings anyway. imo, peat pucks are better than rw, for the availability and affordability ;)
 
I'm gonna gess but tomorrow all my seeds should be cracked open and rooted , it seems like the water is cold but my room is close to 80F but they germinate fast
