Do timers damage hps/mh hid?

I'm just curious, is there any info a newbie needs to know about weather or not timers killing power to hps/mh and ballast can cause damage to the ballast or lights?

I don't see why It would damage it anymore then having it plugged into an outlet and manually turn it on off.

Nope... Timers are fine.

I don't know. Just had a thought and decided to ask. If you are leaving the ballast set to "on" and the power just gets killed to it over and over I just thought that it could possibly damage it. I know certain electric powered devices can get damaged in this scenario...

My Lumatek ballast doesnt have an ON/OFF switch, and I dont think any do anyway? A timer is 100% fine (IMHO better than unplugging/plugging in twice a day)
