Do seedlings genraly get rid of the shell caseings on there own?

lol no dont remove it its a turtles shell and the plant will live with it on top of it forever!!!

lmfao you probably wont get 2 many serious answers on this silly ? pal but for real it'll come off on its own ALWAYS if your impatient you can try to GENTLY flick it off with a tooth pick

LEAVE IT ALONE! Every seed known to man kind tosses it shell off WHEN IT'S TIME.
If it could not, it would be extinct.

*Beginners should just leave the plants alone.*

That said, once the plant begins pushing the shell towards the tips of the pod leaves, it can be easily removed. It can also be removed sooner but doing so would risk harming the plant. The two shell halves must be pried apart without applying pressure to the plant- without bending the stem. I use two pairs of tweezers and a finger. After the shell is off, there will be the translucent membrane left that Dwezel mentioned with a brownish tip. This slides right off by gently squeezing the little brownish tip with your thumb and forefinger on each side (not top and bottom). Removing the shell manually often saves a day of growing time; more if the plant would have had any trouble getting it off, which occasionally happens. Again, this is only for more experienced growers who have steady hands and understand when the plant is ready for its shell to come off.

In the wild, there are millions of little pixies who run around removing seed casings from all sorts of plants.

If you grow indoors, the pixies can't find your plants and you have to put on a little pixie suit and do their job for them.

if the leaves are still folded up in the shell do not remove. You may do more harm than good. They are very sensitive at that stage and you may end up killing it by trying to help. Just let it come off naturally.
