Just wondering if there are any problems using rubbermaid containers as resevoirs. Its $90 for a 30 gal resevoir from my local hydro shop, but I can get a 30 gal rubbermaid container for $10 at target. Any opinions on the benefits of using commercial hydroponics products over other less expensive stuff?

they work pretty damn good considering the price difference my plants dont know im not rich & if light is an issue glue tinfoil to lid & sides

lol just buy it in a dark color, they come in black and dark blue.
I made a DWC with tubs from home depot and the only complaint I have is that when I filled it up with water (it held about 22 gallons to get level to where it needed to be) the sides bulged reAL Bad like it was gonna explode. It is not as thick as the ones at the hydro store. However it never did pop so I used it for a while and I will probably try to find something thicker next time i make one. I used the more expensive rubbermaid ones that home depot sells I think thet were call rough tote or something like that

i would grab some duct tape and wrap its weak spots to reinforce. few wraps around where it bulges and the tape should be able to support it np

buy 2 & double them up you won`t have that problem.I`ve used them for years.Good thing about rubber maids they are cheap.And if you buy the dark ones nothen grows in them.

Rubbermaids tend to flex very hard around the handles when filled up. I would go for a Sterilite. Only 4 bucks and twice as sturdy. Then Paint it glossy black At least 2 cans and 2 cans of flat white. and go outside hold it up to the sun and see how much light you see.

I use rubbermaid containers in my veg. room and it works just fine. No issue with algea a all with a 600w on 19 hours a day. Keep a lid on it and you'll be fine. I would not fill completely. Plastic is light weight and will start to bow out from the water weight.

easy fill and drain. Igloo's have a built in garden hose size drain. Gravity drain out, pump from 300 gallon reservoir in.
