Do Ballasts Use Additional Electricity?

I have a 1000w HPS light with a digital Lumatek ballast.

Am I using 1000w to power both items or 1000w + whatever energy the ballast needs to do its thang? If its the latter, how many watts does a 1000w ballast consume?

i don't know about that specific ballast, but i've heard that the ballast does add about 10% to the wattage total.

1000 watts total, not 2000 watts. The 1000 watts is the power consumption in an hour.
