DNA Genetics LA Woman Feminized

i think im going to have to try this one. i have 40 la conf going now and they are amazing. i have 1 more 4x4 table to fill this one maybe the winner.
I had about 4 drags of LAW an hour ago and I am seriously baked! Anything I write should be considered highly suspect and likely to contain errors in perception. That said, I think it's worth it to try if you like LAC (which I do). It has impressive stopping power and I like the smell of the smoke. The high yeild (especially compared to LAC) is a nice bonus.

Interesting info here, I got an la woman, only 3 weeks from seed but already growing very well, now I am kinda excited. Hoping for something sweet & candy like.

My LA woman has extremely broad fan leaves, damn near look like maple leaves.

The fan leaves will get thinner in flower, but she grows big leaves. Re the sweetness: for me, it smells sweet while flowering and in the jar, but it doesn't really taste sweet. That could easily change as it cures. It might also be affected by any carbs / sugar you use towards the end of flowering.

Hey Guys,
I got 1 LAW seed as a freebie from the attitude and I LOVE my LA Woman. Mine smells mostly like coffee and hash all the way through. There is a bit of a skunky taste in the smoke but it is mostly hashy/coffee. Even a day old half-smoked bowl carries the same flavor and that, to me, is a sign of some good smoke. I have yet to make it further than a week in the jar because my personal opp is small and I really like this stuff, but it isn't harsh and mine likes more nutes than the rest of my strains. I use amended organic soil that I mix to 2x strength and then cut 50/50 with coco when I pot up. With the LAW, instead of adding 1/2 coco I add about a third and she is a rockstar. With my normal mix the LAW fan leaves all drop at about 5 or 6 weeks and that seems to cut production. Great producer if you can keep a few fans until week 8 or 9. Stretches a lot but packs on large indica style calyixes. In my 250w floro cab a 2" clone straight from cloner to soil will stretch to about 18-20" and give me 4 or 5 grams in about 2-3 cups of soil Huge fan leaves when in bigger pots or outside, with a nice deep green color.. I have a friend growing a clone of this one outside right now and the center leaves on the fans are about 2" x 6"! High is very strong and fairly dumbfounding. I get the racy sativa influence first and then after a bit I am inspired to sit on the couch and wipe drool off my chin. Ha!

I assume mine leans more toward the LAC than the Martian but I haven't had either so that is a guess. I believe the coffee thing is a tell-tale indica trait, so that is the basis for my assumption. I call this one a winner for sure, with the only downsides being substantial odor in the grow and about 10 weeks of flower time. Great taste, super potent, great producer and amber shows at about 9 weeks with perfect ripeness being closer to 10 or 11. For the record, I am thinking DNA has some really nice genetics because I got the LAW and Rockstar and both, even though only single seed freebies, are mothers that I plan on holding onto. The rockstar is really stinky!!

***edit to add*** I should mention that this is an ideal sog strain. Clones grow strait up with very thick stems and almost -0- branching. I have also had good luck pruning to 4 branches, vegging a few weeks and lst'ing, but just letting her grow straight up seems to be the most effective method.

My LA woman is a week away from the chop and she smells a bit like orange zest not the biggest producer of the grow but not to bad either, also some of the buds are starting to get some purple hues going on hopefully be chopping and trying some before i fly out to the Dam again.

Three questions:

1) What happens when you let things go 2-3 weeks past whatever the recommended number of weeks are listed at?

2) Would you guys say that it's *OK* (or maybe even a good thing) to let this particular variety go a full 12 weeks?

3) By extending the period a full 2-3 extra weeks, what are the advantages? Weight or potency? That is, by extending the duration by an extra 2-3 weeks are you benefiting mostly in terms of potency? Or weight? Or actually both?

i finished a la woman grow last month, heres a pic of the top of the sog cola during week 6.

mine smelled very hashy, robust, as well as tasted the same. very strong smelling before the cure and during.

high was pretty mellow, mainly in the body but with a little cerebral. no racing heart, paranoia, or deep thoughts. nice bud to smoke at the end of the night or late afternoon to help relax.

effects last for a decent amount of time, after 1 bong, I could feel the effects up to 1-2 hours later. I should mention that I am a medicinal smoker, with a high tolerance.

definitely recommend it as she is pretty easy to grow, loves big feedings.

definitely let her go 9-10 weeks because she packs on a lot of weight towards the end of her life.

it was really nice smoke but i would only rate the potency 7/10; good but not my usual cup o' tea.

1: more weight happens, but you will get a lot of degraded thc/amber trichomes, which will lock you to the couch and give you the "burnt out" feeling. I usually let my strains go a little bit longer than listed because those estimations only depend if you have a perfect growing environment.

2: its ok to grow your plant for as long as you want, but i probably wouldnt recommend it.

3: basically answered it in #1.

Yeah, As Clasonde said it can change things, but many aspects of your grow will change things. Don't think for a second that every seed in a pack is going to be the same! Very few strains out there have that kind of consistency! Best way to determine when to pick is by inspecting the trichromes with a microscope. Trichs start out clear, go to cloudy, and then get amber colored. Cloudy is peak potency, so most people watch for amber and when they see about 20% amber they chop to be sure that almost all of the clear is gone. When the trichs go amber the thc degrades to other chemicals such as cbd's and that will change the buzz somewhat, but despite what you read it won't make a racy sativa into a couchlock indica... it will change the buzz some but not as much as some would have you believe. Best is to keep a mother and experiment with different harvest dates until you get to know your favorite grow time for that individual plant.

As for LA Woman, it isn't a stretch to say that for individual plants 12 weeks may not be long enough and for some it is too long. Hydro is often faster than soil, and indoor can be faster than outdoor. If you do training or repotting durring flower, or if you cause other stress factors such as heat or light stress you can slow down maturity. Different nutriend schedules can change things. Putting newly sprouted seeds into flower will slow things down also, compared to a plant that has reached maturity before put into flowering. The information the breeders give us is typically best case scenario so you really have to look at the plant! FME letting the buds go past maturity doesn't add any weight or major difference in the buzz but you should experiment!!! I just let a Mango go for an extra couple weeks and although the potency still isn't where I hoped when I started the strain the buzz does last a lot longer. The high we get from MJ is based on 400+ different chemicals and how they react together within our bodies. Letting the buds go past maturity will change the balance of these chemicals but it isn't as predictable as saying that it simply turns to couchlock. The trichs turning from cloudy to amber signifies the end of the plants life cycle so FME there is no more weight at that point, but I grow small plants so a small amount would be immeasurable on my end. I did read an article recently that stated if you keep letting them go they will eventually sprout male flowers but I don't know for sure that is true.

Thinks for the info guys...just curious about one more thing. The genetics description says that it's quite ok to remove some of the larger fan leaves around the 5th week for this specific one. I know I know...most people will say don't do it anyway, but assuming you feel the need to do it anyway to allow some light penetration in a particular situation, where exactly would you remove these larger leaves and what percentage? Would you just pick here and there, or maybe just remove a few at the very very top only?

don't go crazy at all. once the plant is in its final stages, it relies on those leaves for nutrition.
you should only remove large fan leaves if u see they are directly blocking light from reaching a bud site.
sometimes i'll see a fan leaf growing out on top of a bud site, so the flower is shaded. if that happens, i pinch the piece of the stem where it meets the plant's stalk, so that it falls off. usually picking just one off of the bud site will do.

anyway just wanted to say that a session with LA Woman left me high for a good five hours so i was very happy with her!

Jed the article you recently read was correct i have left plants go well past the chop date and male flowers were produced I'm not sure if all strains do this or only some, a friend of mine got some sensi Afghani #1 mixed up with blue cheese and let it flower for 12+ weeks he ended up with a lot of fem seeds. i always work out roughly when the plant will be ready by counting the weeks from the 1st sign of flower not from when the lights are turned back to 12-12 but it is only a rough guide checking the trichs is the best way to determine when to crop.
As for removing the fans i would rather try and tuck them behind other branches rather than remove them as while they are still there they are still producing energy for the plant to use the only time i might remove the fans is if i need the plant to flush quicker at the end.

Generally I follow the seed company recommendations on flower time on first cut, with usually a couple other cuts taken 1 week apart after that. Next grow, I cut at whatever time produced the best effect on the first grow. Generally that's one to two weeks later than recommended, but not always. Course, I grow hydroponically indoors, so your mileage may vary.

Thanks for confirming that!! I will try that one day but not for awhile. I am now leery of playing with pollen because it seems to stay in the cabinet longer than you would think!! I run a perpetual-ish grow and I had a couple instances where my buds weren't seeded but had immature seeds that made the smoke harsh as hell. Seeds I don't mind, but little white wanna-be seeds that get lost in the grinder are a pita!!!

As for fans, I kind of took that comment on DNA's description as saying it looses fans early since that what seems to happen to me under my normal fert situation. MANY different theorys on removing fans and if there is a benefit at all even if covering a budsite. I don't know... I'm more likely to remove lower fans since they themselves aren't getting as much light but as 3eyes says, bending them around so that the plant can still suck the juice out of them is probably the best option. When they start to get crispy and all green is gone I pull them without thinking twice though. If you do pull green leaves don't pull a lot at once. That is stressfull to the plant! You could also cut the leaf blades in half and probably cause less stress than plucking, but I don't know that for fact.

Here is a macro of my LAW at 7.5 weeks showing the first signs of amber. Note there is very little clear here but in other parts of the flower there is more. This could be pulled now and still be some great smoke and would most likely be at near max potency, but these calyxes will fatten up a lot and the smoke is richer and thicker when she goes to 10 +weeks. Flavor and smell are also better and stronger. That may be why some are saying the smoke is harsh... it gets smoother if it goes a little longer FME. It is also super expansive in your lungs so that may be some of the harshness IDK. This isn't the smoothest smoke I've ever had but I don't consider it harsh.

I grew mine out to about 7.5 also, but clipped early only because it started showing so much yellowing due to underfeeding. But you're right at about 7 weeks.... their caylexs blow up. I wish i could've let it go longer. I have a clone that i'm flowering now... unfortunately it has some pm so i'm stressing it a bit through it's 3-4 week of flowering.
but the smoke was great though .... i don't remember much because it was about a month ago since i ran out but .....
at about 70 percent cloudy at harvest... and cured for about a week or two. It gave a nice ...basic flavor to me.. Like what mids would taste like if they were grown and properly. The high was the same.. It didn't trip me out.. you needed about a half a joint to get nice.. but i do remember the smoke being harsh.

I am on my second LAW grow I have two 5'x5.5' screens and a 16 site recirculating DWC. Everybody that has tasted my LAW loves it. I have some Purple Mist right now, that does not come close to comparing. The only thing that I have been on recently that challenges the LAW was some Ice I had the other day.

LAW has a very floral taste, real pleasant. She is one of the easiest strains I have ever cloned. I only had 1 freebie seed, and have taken about 50 clones since germination. I flowered the mom, and just keep taking cones. Real nice strain, not the biggest yield, but great smoke.

Well I ended up pulling down that LAW last night a 58days... I was about 90%cloudy, 10% amber and the occasional clear.Probably right at the peak of ripeness. This is almost where I was at 10 weeks last time so it is making me wonder what is going on! I added more nutes so that may be it but I don't rec all anyone ever saying a heavier feeding schedule can make things go faster. maybe it is just because the plant's genetics are older, I think this may have actually been the seed plant because I recloned for a new mother, and I vegged this one for a few weeks, so it could be any or all of those factors. Either way I had a half dozen rootbound clones I needed to get out of the veg cabinet so I took her down. I have a couple more going so I will know more in a couple months!

Also... since nobody seems to have the same pheno that I do, there is a chance then when I started this and my other DNA freebie I got them mixed up. I am super careful about things like that but it is possible I suppose. I know that this plant has always been what I have called LAW, but it is odd that nobody is reporting the coffee smell because that is by far the most predominant scent, and it is a real stinker. Does anyone have experience with either Martian Mean Green, LA Confidential (the two that make up LAW) or Rocklock? Rocklock is the other strain I have from DNA and is supposed to be a fast finisher, but it goes slower than my LAW has the past round... Hmm... suddenly I feel like I might be a dumbass... Based on pics though it looks a lot like what others are posting so maybe I really did luck out with this seed!

Ahh well, here are the pics. I didn't do a wet weight because I'm drying them stems-on, but fme this looks like it should be close to 15 grams. My system is a micro/floro system so I'm not built for big buds like ataxia, or that killer scrog that purplhaze is sportin... These buds are actually quite large compared to what I normally pull in my system. I think the improvement there is that I cut out a lot of the little lower bud sights about 1/2 way through the stretch.

Jed

***edit to say*** actual dry weight came in at 10 grams. I'm pleased with that though. I did a little better than that when I went 10+ weeks and lst'd. I recently did just under 5 grams with a clone potted up at 12/12. And as another note about the strain, it is super easy to trim up. Most fans come off with a gentle tug and many of the smaller leaves are burried in the calyxis so clipping is minimal. Well... based on how I clip and that is displayed below.

LA deffinately has a couple of phenos that smell like coffee and it deffinately looks like the LA bud structure, descent tops with a lot of little popcorn nugs.

It looks like LA Woman to me. I have found that 10 weeks is better than 9 with the LA. The coffee flavor, I think I can identify. I never nailed it down as coffee, but ya and it is the most predominant odour I think it is actually a haze influence that produces that smell. The LA does not seem to be a big yielder, but, great smoke.
