Hello People

Not posted for a while; all is good in my hood and i have a veritable jungle on my hands; have a russian in bloom that is growing bigger by the minute, they are loving my diy ebb n flow setup. Attached a pic or 2, sorry they are poor, but i have a 3.5ft x 4ft forest..

Thing is, i know this business, to do this properly, is an expensive one, and being naturally tight I would like to save some dough. Don't get me wrong, don't mind spending money where it's needed, one of your good people suggested i get some open sesameto help flower my old mothers and glad i did; cha ching my next purchase, but when i read the contents of the fox farm product; can't help thinking a trip to my local agricultural store, coupled with a bucket full of burn't barby charcoal could give me a shitload of the same stuff at a fraction of the price. Love that fox farm gear, but living in europe, its well expensive here.

Anyone have experience in such an approach for hydro???? obviously a bit concerned that all the nutes won't dissolve properly and cause blockages, but presuming my blender and cooker could sort that particular problem out. And i have a freezer so it all can be freeze dried. Also if anyone has any other suggestions as to what i could put in my diy brew im all ears...guano springs to mind, but can i use that crap in hydro?

Do have 2 plants in big ol buckets, can i put my barby potash straight on those???

And before i go, just took posession of a nutrient meter. Whilst i am clueless as to what it does, just dipped it in my tank and its flashing a cf reading at me of 24 and ec of 2.4 ppm of 1680. Whilst my plants seem to be loving it, any comments cos i really am out of my depth here and not a clue what action i need to take (if any)

Thankyou people for all your help thus far; couldn't have got here without u!

A reading of 1600 is pretty high, it would mean your peak feed would be 2200. This is very high levels of fertilizer, watch out for nute burn.

Generally there are different levels of feeding, 1200 peak is low feeding 1800 medium 2200 high. With synthetic or non organic nutes.

Organic nutes; you don't peak so high L-M-H, 800-1200-1600.
Organic compounds don't show up on the EC. So it really is the same amount of food.

I feed at a very low level, 800 peak, and produce great results, but the rest of my setup has a lot to do with it.

Air-Light-Food, all are equally important. More food without the light or air, no good.

There's a good thread about making organic teas for hydro, look for it, I think it's in the organic section. That should save you some cash, but I really recommend looking into Advanced Nutrients, if they're available in your area.

I thank you.....

air quality good and well ventilated...comments noted about the feed...still a bit confused about the ppm cos as i said my new nutrient stick has 2 different ppm readings....one ec x 500 the other ec x 700...the ec is currently showing 3.2..

in any event i take it that straight water is the answer to get the ppm down in my 100 litre tank??? gonna start using filtered water too cos the ec is .8 for my tapwater and .5 for filtered; every little must help...
and advanced nutrients...they are in bc, canada; my bro lives there...bonus...

and thanks again from a fellow Welshman; I doff my hat and look forward to sharin a doobie soon...

ps...my one old mother im flowering is eye an old welsh hippy strain...u had any o that stuff? Tis Mental...

peace

I got your PM, Howard Marks is one of my heros, I'm not the real Howard Marks, it's my alias, he had tons of names, so I decided to use his.

I live in the states, but am a third generation from Wales, mostly Welsch blood, a little Irish. Sorry to disappoint you, but the 30 footer sounds like a great time, thanks for the offer. :bigjoint:
