Hey there folks

I have all the supplies built and purchased to produce colloidal silver as well as an STS solution. Just curious what the feedback is on any experienced seed feminizers would be, and by Feminizer I don't mean the mistreatment of female seeds ha ha... err.. anyhow whats the 411 on it so I can increase my 420.

Peace

Its a small world after all! ;) great minds must think alike! I had ordered some Dr. T's seed making spray myself from a hydro shop, & that was over 2, almosr 3 weeks ago! And the shit never came!! So I called the shop up & told them I wanted a refund! Well, I just made myself a batch of "Collodial Silver" last night! Haha.. :)
I used some on one of my "100% pure Sativas" & forced her to produce male flowers a few months back. I collected the pollen & stored it,waiting on my "8 Ball Kush" to flower! Well, she's been flowering for about a week or so now, & I have been taking the pollen from the Sativa, using a paint brush, & painting the pollen on the 8 Balls hairs. I've been doing this over the past 3 days now! If you want I have pictures of the 8 Ball that I polinated & also the Sativa is in pictures in the same thread aswell! Its called "Bud Porn"!

There's the link so you don't have to go searching for it bro.. take a gander at the Sativa! She was 3'foot tall when I started flowering her. Now she's pushing over 6'feet!! ;)

Dank.

Excellent, and yes great minds do think alike, from what I was reading the STS solution requires maximum two applications. I got the seed production down to a science and get a low percentage of un viable seeds every run. Having feminized seeds take alot of the work out of it. I also keep a nice cache of regular seeds just for different phenos, or lets say I wanted to seed the country lol. Congrats on your success I will be trying both methods hopefully in the future. The STS method requires very small quantities of fairly expensive materials like Sodium Theosulfate and Silver Nitrate. Also got some 10 gauge silver wire on it's way. Glad to see the Colloidal Silver worked. Dod your plant turn brown or get burnt at all?

Hey! I had trouble finding pure silver! So I had to go to wal-mart just to purchase a st of pure silver "earrings" lol!
I'm sure I could've used somthing other then that! Just had a barn fart at that time I guess. Lol.. ;)
Anyways, I treated my Sativa 2 times before I seen any results! And I only sprayed it on 1 branch. The leaves on the 1 branch where kinda "droopy" at first, other then that it did fine bro.. :)

Did you get a chance to check out my grow journals yet bro? Let me know what you think?.. thanks bro.. your friend, Dank.

I checked out your Sativa, very impressive plant, Outdoor or indoor? is that led light i saw in one of the pic? And again great minds, very clever fix for the silver I would not have thought of that. O got a couple of strands of silver wire, I saw a dude on youtube from Australia doing the same thing with colloidal and it was a lowryder I think but it looked all burnt and half dead. The Sodium Theosulfate was pretty dear but it hasn't got a shelf life so I suppose I will be doing tonnes of sex changes in the future Ha!! Keep up the good work I am gonna see if you have more than one journal and checkum out have a good one Boss!

Hey bro! Yeah, she's indoors. Lol.. ;) I hadn't grew this strain b4! It was in a batch of beans my dad had gave me he got a long while back! He gave them to me before he passed away. ;) I know he is up in Ganja Heaven looking down, & helping it grow..

Anyways, I had NO CLUE she would end up as big as she is! She was only 3'foot tall when I started flowering her. And she now is over 6'foot tall!! I would had put side "lights" along the sides of her & my Super Lemon Skunk! For more "outwards" growth, but I am limited to space!! I will be soon getting my income taxes, & my wife is bitching because I am using our/"her" bathroom as my "vegging" room! And she is getting pissed! But hey, she'll just have to get over it won't she!? Lol ;) she said it looks like a jungle in there!! :) she made a deal with me though! She said she would let me have 600 to 800 $ just as long as I move them outta her bathroom! So I am going to get me an outside building & deck it out!!

OH!! Yup! That is indeed a "LED" system you see in a few pics. Its a 800watter! Can you believe I wrote a LED company & told them I would do a "grow journal" for them on there equipment, & a rep wrote me back & excepted, & told me just to KEEP it once I was finshed with the grow journal!! ;) I still can't believe it bro!! I haven't had it but a month! And I LOVE it!! And so do my babies! ;) I've got a lot of companies to just send me "FREE" stuff by just asking.. ;)
Nutes, light, seeds. Hell, I asked my seedbank if they could through me a few extra, & they sent me 11 (fem) Chemmy Jones! I looked at them, and they list for almost 200$!! Just goes to show people that if you ask, & your persistant, it pays off!!!

Holy Shit!!! free stuff... I am Dutch and I havent got much for free maybe I will start putting it out there. I have been thinking about doing a grow journal maybe I should email one of these Chinese outfits and see if they would send me some LED's for a grow journal only thing is I am not in the comfort zone to be journaling anything I do so that will be a no go, Hee Hee, When I was on Icmag I donated a pile of seeds to the cause and then ended up getting banned for talking about other companies merch. Thats why I am here now. I have to say this seems to be a great hobby. you and your wife seem to have a good marraige, she is compremising which is a must in a marraige, Is it alright to have an out building where you live? If it is sounds like a good comprimise if your handy at building stuff there are tonnes of shed plans that have like a greenhouse on one side that you could point towards the sun. Still love that Sativa Man, my condolences for your Father but it seems he is still blessing you from heaven man keep up the good gardening. I just started 12 beefsteaks and twelve cherry tomatoes, I learned you can clone tomatoe plants so I am going to apply what I learned here and see if I can keep a mother tomatoe plant and clone a buch else. Well Boss time for me to jet you have a good one.

Cheers

Hey buddy! What's up? Was glad to hear back from you! ;) thanks about that "about my dad"! Means a lot bro! Yeah, he must be! :) because it sure is reaching for the sky, lol! I also believe he gave me his "green thumb" aswell! Na, I've been growing "bud" for over 13+ years or so. He taught me how to grow when I was like 11 or 12, lol.. sure do miss him!! He was a firefighter, & was in a structure fire, it ended up colapsing ontop of him & the other guys, ending up breaking his back! Well, the "Doc's" put him on a shit ton of pain meds, whuch I know he was in a lot of pain! And after about a years time, he just got to where he was taking more then was recomended, because he got use to it, and it wasn't working anymore! Well, a lot of the family members where telling him he "needed help" for his "addiction" & so he went to try and he so called help, & they put him on "methadone" & well needless to say, one night he was hurting really bad, he had took the methadone earlier that day, and later that night he took his "nerve" meds, which the Doc didn't tell him that "nerve" meds & methadone don't mix!! He laid down that night & died in his sleep! He was 45 years old when he passed away!!

Well enough of that!! Yeah my wife is an angel! ;) she is very understanding of my "hobby"!! But I can understand her wanting her "bathroom" back, and don't blame her one bit!! Lol.. so that's the reason for the outdoor grow building.. and yeah, I can have a building here where I am.. I also have a huge garden during the summer month, & a few things going during the winter out there! I am planning on building it out near the garden, or buying one already built! Depends on what will be cheaper! :) and that's crazy! I told you great minds think alike!! I haved been starting my "veggie seeds" indoors aswell this morning!! ;) haha.. I also plan on making the garden bigger this year! It did really well last year! I even sold enough at the farmers market for it to pay for itself & then some!! I love growing anything really! ;) and as for the grow building. I will be needing some help, and I will be doing all that here within the next week or so! I may be asking 4 your help, if you don't mind?? I plan on installing a breaker box out there! I know the basics of wiring, just never put a box in! That and insullating aswell, running exhaust, water lines, more lighting, etc'! And for my dark flowering room, I was thinking about just purchasing one of those grow tents & putting it off to one corner in the building for flowering! They have um on Amazon for 70$. Which I thought is a really good price!! Don't you? And hell yeah bro. I would be asking these companies to test out there products aswell! Doesn't hurt one bit to ask! Besides, it beats paying out the ass for it! Lol.. ;) I have been given more stuff here recently then ever! The General Organic nutrients I am using was just given to me about 2 weeks ago from a nute company! Lol... but yeah bro, ask um! All they can say is yes, or no! ;) well, hollar at me when you get some free time.. your friend, Dank.

Hey buddy, tough road for your old man for sure, I hesitate to comment sometimes for sensitivity reasons, like for me a lack of it ha! But it would seem your Dads memory is being celebrated, a brave hearted individual with a mind of his own, to be respected and cherished. As for the outdoor project I could likely give you some pointers on how to do things as best as I can, I am educated and tend to err on the side of safety when it comes to the more complicated things. Alot of code stuff can be found on the net as it will differ from region to region. as for the green thumb I am always planting things, I also started vermi composting a while back, something you should look into if you have a garden. Alot of fruits and veggies that I eat the remnets end up in the worm bin. You can harvest worm castings every so often. Plants love it cause alot of the seeds that end up in it tend to germ from all the activity and sprout. I had some sprouts about 8 inches tall before they fell over and then the worms ate them Hee hee, the cycle of life. I think tonight I will email a few companies and ask around for soem freebies to test. For now I will have to log off and do some chores. Have a good one friend. :)

;) thanks bro! ;) yeah I know he lives on. As for the outdoor grow building yeah that would be great 2 have some help! Like said I do know the basics on wiring, just don't like it! Got shocked last year wiring a ballast, and haven't been right ever since! Lol..:cuss: oh it pissed me off! Its awful feeling when electric grabs ahold & doesn't let go!! Anyways, I can't wait! Will be doing video's of the project & pics the whole entire setup & grow! So hopefully other DIY will be able to follow along! ;) oh! Talking about that "vermi" composting, I hadn't herd of it! But I do have a regular compost bin though.. and last year I had the same thing happen, lol! Had all sorts of sprouts coming up,where I had threw bad veggies in there! ;) haha. Its crazy huh!? You know one year probley round 6 or 7 year ago I had been emptying my "bud ashtray" out the back door! Well it must had some seeds in it, I was out there fooling around one week & had noticed a beautiful plant growing up right where I had dumped the ashtray!! I had to transplant the baby, it was probley 6 to 7" tall. That plant grew into the best looking "reggie" plant I had ever smoked on! I knew it had to be reggie, cause at that time I had bought a qp, & found only a few beans in it! Maybe 13 to 15 at most! And I thought that was really good for a qp! Well bro, yeah I would ask around myself too! ;) I hope you get some good replys!! ;) don't stay a stranger bro! Stay in touch.. your friend, Dank..

sts is much easier and more effective

  • The following is a safe, inexpensive, and successful method for reversing the sex of female cannabis plants. Individual plant responses may vary based upon strain, but I can verify that this process is fully effective in stimulating profuse staminate flower production.

This process can be used to:
A: create new feminized seeds from solitary prize mothers that you currently have
B: create interesting feminized-seed hybrids from different prize strains that you currently have
C: create feminized seeds for optimum outdoor use
D: accelerate the "interview" phase of cultivation, in searching for interesting new clone-mothers
E: reduce total plant numbers- great for medical users with severe plant number restrictions
F: increase variety, by helping to create stable feminized seedlines to be used as an alternative to clones

At the bottom of this post are some specific details about the chemicals used, their safety, their cost, and where to get them.

It is important to educate yourself about cannabis breeding theory and technique prior to using a method like this one. Here is a link to Robert Clarke's "marijuanaBotany", which is a very good reference.

    http://planetganja.net/Ebooks/Marijuana%20Botany.pdf

It is also important to use basic safety precautions when mixing and handling these chemicals, so read the safety data links provided. The risk is similar to mixing and handling chemical fertilizers, and similar handling procedures are sufficient.

Remember: nothing will ever replace good genetics, and some of your bounty should always go back towards the professional cannabis breeders out there... the ones who have worked for many generations to come up with their true-breeding F1 masterpieces. Support professional breeders by buying their seeds. Also, order from Heaven's Stairway. Not that they need a plug from me, but they are very professional and provide very fast service worldwide.

    Preparation of STS:
First, a stock solution is made. It consists of two parts (A and B) that are initially mixed separately, then blended together. Part A is ALWAYS mixed into part B while stirring rapidly. Use distilled water; tap water may cause precipitates to form.

Wear gloves while mixing and using these chemicals, and mix and use in a properly ventilated area. A mask will prevent the breathing of any dust, which is caustic. STS is colorless and odorless, and poses minimal health risks if used as described here. (See material safety data sheet links below). Note that silver nitrate and STS can cause brown stains upon drying, so spray over newspaper and avoid spilling.

Part A: 0.5 gram silver nitrate stirred into 500ml distilled water
Part B: 2.5 grams sodium thiosulfate (anhydrous) stirred into 500ml distilled water

The silver nitrate dissolves within 15 seconds. The sodium thiosulfate takes 30-45 seconds to dissolve.

The silver nitrate solution (A) is then mixed into the sodium thiosulfate solution (B) while stirring rapidly. The resulting blend is stock silver thiosulfate solution (STS).

This stock solution is then diluted at a ratio of 1:9 to make a working solution. For example, 100ml of stock STS is added to 900ml of distilled water. This is then sprayed on select female plants.

Both the stock STS and the working solution should be refrigerated after use, as well as the powdered chemicals, to avoid activity loss. Excess working solution can be safely poured down the drain after use (with ample running water) with negligible environmental impact. It's pretty cheap.

Each liter of stock STS will make ten 1-liter batches of working solution of STS. With the minimum amount of base chemicals ordered from Photographer's Formulary (see link below), this means that each 1-liter bottle of working solution STS costs less than 9 cents, and can treat 15-20 mid-sized plants. That's 200 1-liter batches of STS for $18. Note that the distilled water costs far more than the chemicals.

    Application:
The STS working solution is sprayed on select female plants until runoff. Do the spraying over newspaper in a separate area from the flower room. You probably won't smell anything, but ventilate anyway. You now have what I call a "F>M plant"; a female plant that will produce male flowers.

After the F>M plant dries move it into 12/12 immediately. This is usually done three to four weeks prior to the date that the target (to be pollinated) plants will be ready to pollinate. Response times may vary slightly depending upon the strain. More specific times can be determined by trial with your own individual strains. In my trials it took 26 days for the first pollen. 30-35 days seems optimum for planning purposes.

So, assuming that a target plant needs 3-4 weeks to produce fully mature seeds, a strain that takes 8 weeks to mature should be moved into flower at about the same time as the female>male plant. A target plant that finishes flowering in 6 weeks needs to be moved into flower later (10 days or so) so that it doesn't finish before theseeds can fully mature.

A seeded individual branch can be left to mature on a plant for a bit longer, while harvesting the other seedless buds if they finish first. Just leave enough leaves on for the plant for it to stay healthy.

    Effects:
Within days I noticed a yellowing of the leaves on the F>M plants. This effect persisted for two weeks or so; after this they became green again, except for a few of the larger fans. The plants otherwise seemed healthy. No burning was observed. Growth stopped dead for the first ten days, and then resumed slowly. No stretch was ever seen. After two weeks the F>M plants were obviously forming male flower clusters. Not just a few clusters of balls, but complete male flower tops. One plant still formed some pistillate flowers, but overall it was predominantly male.

It is strange indeed to see an old girlfriend that you know like the back of your hand go through a sex change. I'll admit that things were awkward between us at first.

When the F>M plants look like they may soon open and release pollen, ( 3-1/2 to 4 weeks) move them from the main flower room into another unventilated room or closet with lighting on a 12/12 timer. Don't worry too much about watts per square foot; it will only be temporary.

When the pollen flies, move your target plants into the closet and pollinate.

A more controlled approach is to isolate the F>M plants in a third remote closet (no light is necessary in this one, as they are releasing pollen now and are nearly finished anyway). In this remote other closet the pollen is very carefully collected in a plastic produce bag or newspaper sleeve and then brought back to the lighted closet, where the target plants are now located. If this is done, be careful to not mix pollen types by letting the F>Ms dust each other. Avoid movement, or use yet another closet.

Take special care to not let pollen gather on the outside of this bag- a static charge is sometimes present. Drop small open clusters of blooms inside and then close the bag at the mouth and shake. Important: next, step outside and slowly release the excess air from the bag, collapsing it completely, so that pollen doesn't get released accidently. Point downwind; don't let it get on your hands or clothes.

This collapsed pollinated bag is now very carefully slipped over only one branch and is then tied off tightly at the mouth around the branch stem with a twist tie or tape, sealing the pollen inside. Let the bag inflate slightly with air again before sealing it off, so the branch can breathe. This technique keeps the entire plant from seeding. Agitate the bag a bit after tying it off to distribute the pollen. Don't forget to label the branch so you know which seeds are which. Other branches on this same plant can be hit with different pollen sources.

If no lighted closet is available, the plant can be moved back into the main room, but- be very carefulollen is sneaky. After 4-5 days, the bag is gently removed and the plant completes it's flowering cycle.

Yet another method has worked well for me. I position the target plants in a non-ventilated lighted closet, and then I collect pollen on a piece of mirror or glass. This is then carefully applied to the pistils of one pre-labeled branch by using a very fine watercolor paintbrush. Care is taken to not agitate the branch or the pollen. No sneezing. The plant needs to be in place first; moving it after pollination can shake pollen free and blow this technique.

Regardless of technique, at completion you will have feminized seeds. Let them dry for 2-4 weeks.

    About the chemicals:
Silver nitrate is a white crystalline light-sensitive chemical that is commonly used in photography. It is also used in babies' eyes at birth to prevent blindness. It can cause mild skin irritation, and it stains brown. Avoid breathing. I didn't notice any smell or fumes, but ventilation is recommended. Be sure to wash the spray bottle well before you use it elsewhere; better yet: devote a bottle to STS use. A half gram is a surprisingly small amount; it would fit inside a gel capsule.

.preparation of silver thiosulfate (sts) solution

silver thiosulfate (sts) is commonly used to block the action of ethylene in plant cell cultures. Ethylene is a hormone that is present in the gaseous state. Ethylene increases during senescence and ripening, and has been shown to increase in plant cell cultures due to wounding or the presence of auxins. Silver nitrate may be used alone to block the action of ethylene but it is not transported as well as sts thus is seldom used alone.

Prepare a 0.1 m sodium thiosulfate (sts) stock solution by dissolving 1.58 g of sodium thiosulfate (product no. S 620) into 100 ml of water. Prepare a 0.1 m silver nitrate stock solution by dissolving 1.7 g of silver nitrate (product no. S 169) into 100 ml of water. Store the stock solution in the dark until needed to prepare the sts.

The sts solution is prepared with a molar ratio between silver and thiosulfate of 1:4, respectively. Nearly all of the silver present in the solution is in the form of [ag (s2o3)2]3-, the active complex for ethylene effect inhibition.
Prepare a 0.02 m sts by slowly pouring 20 ml of 0.1 m silver nitrate stock solution into 80 ml of 0.1 m sodium thiosulfate stock solution. The sts can be stored in the refrigerator for up to a month. However, preparation of the sts just prior to use is recommended.
