DIY CFL Hood

Hey Yall, just wanted to share a hood i made many many years ago that i just rediscovered in my storage. Its made from 7/16" OSB (Oriental Strand Board), Surface mounted medium base plastic light fixtures. some Romex wiring, medium base splitters, and covered in Mylar.

This worked very well for me, for many years. I ended up making two of these, one at 36" long and one at 24" long. Its super basic, and at the time costed me about 30 bucks in supplies. Granted todays world were probably looking at more, or maybe you have the supplies laying around.

Let me know if you want a little more info. Just thought id share what Ive done, as a little encouragement for those who are starting out and don't want the major initial investments.

Nah, Design Engineer. Not licensed though. Was building Broadway shows for a while, now I do architectural millwork for 1%ers. This is by all means not my best work, slammed together with some hand tools and scrap pieces, but it got the job done.

Nice! I love getting a chance to use scrap for side projects.

I save it all you never know what jobs lay ahead l.

My wife hates when I do that. I have soo much scraps of some good hardwoods, but to her, its all trash.

What sort of hardwood? Any curly or birds eye maple?

Mainly soft maple, walnut, some oak and a few sticks of sepele right now. Most of my figured wood is at my shop.
