DIY Ceiling Air Vent To Duct Ideas?

Hey everyone.

I've got a spare back bathroom, about 6'x8'x10' with one of the central AC ducts sending air into the room. (just like most regular homes pushing AC air into rooms through a vent)

Currently my vent looks just like this, a standard vent or some call it a register.

Since I don't need to cool the entire bathroom and the region I live is very warm/hot most months of the year I'd like to know an easy and clean way to attach a length of duct to air vent.

Ideally it would look something like this without the box on the bottom. I would run the duct to my large tent.

Preferably, I would just screw a few sheet metal screws to the existing vent so I could remove without a hassle and destroying things. Does anyone know of some type of vent cover, diverter, etc I can pick up at home depot at lowes that would do the job even if it took some modification?

Pull off the cover and see what size the ducting is inside. Hopefully it's round ducting and you can just put a piece of flexible duct into it and foam seal it to it. either that or get the same ceiling diffuser box with the flanges and flange it to the existing piece, seal the seams then attach the flexible whatever to it.

or you can make a cover for it that has a collar for the flexible duct to attach to. sheet metal and a pair of snips would work well.

Thanks, no round duct inside but I think the flange idea will work. Thanks.

noo problem. they do make these collar pieces that are made to tab onto foamboard too. you may be able to take a piece of wood the same thickness as foamboard, or just foamboard with a piece of plywood to re-enforce it. you'd have to cut a hole into it then put the collar in and seal it to the piece. then you can get this foam strip stuff and stick it to the piece of wood. map out the two holes the same as the register cover and just screw it into the old holes :p probably cost about 2-3$ for the collar piece if you can get the piece of wood and foam board and have the tools. the nice tape is about 10-15 for a roll and you dont get a ton.
