i love electronic ballasts.
they do save a little power, and there are some seroiusly crappy brands be careful

i use 2nd generation
Lumatek E ballasts i love them i managed to save about $11 a month too! so its not a nuge difference.
Benifits, the bulbs burn @ 95-110% of rated power, this is far beyond coil ballasts , (there are some exceptions IE pl sys. , power house)
they claim over 20% more light from the same usage, that is a fair statement
there are some really bad ones that cant handle a storm. i killed 8 future brite ballasts in one storm.
one close strike and the boards were history

Not until the hydro shop dissed me. they were raking UNGODLY monies from me. and they sold me on the brite line, more than likely because the profit was better.
Every board was fried near the grounding lug. i was a crippling loss.
i had bad bad dreams of what i wanted to do to them.
100% organig torture of course. paper cuts lemon juice, Gasoline
needless to say, i walked from the shop leaving nearly 3500.00 worth of 4 month old ballasts, my fear was that if i didnt leave them i would have returned them through the window.
pissed, i spent 22k over 9 weeks there and got the ROYAL treatment.

you betcha i was crying like a new born baby. In the end it helped for a very very good relationship. Now i enjoy doing business again. Lets face it, the next best thing to growing is selling the goods. most products have margins of 66%- 4000% mark up

I have a Lumatek 400w E ballast and it works great. It is silent and does not put out a lot of heat. It also puts out more lumen's than a regular ballast.

I agree , True no noise nothin nada, very true they are alot cooler, it will definatly drive the bulb better than a magnetic ballast.
most digital ballasts will "chew up" cheap bulbs because they relly push them to the limits. This is why so many HTG problems occur. by the time you get the third cheap upgraded bulb , you have had all this downtime.
