Distance from plant w/250MH lamp?

Just put the plant in closet for 18hr on and 6 hr off with 250MH lamp. What distance should the lamp be from the top of plant??? Thanks

if your plant is older than 2 weeks you want the light as close to the plant as you can get without burning. hold your hand at the top of the plant and lower the light until your hand is comfortably warm.
