Dimming LED question

I was wondering. If I dim my 600w LED to 300w can I have the plants half the distance away?

They recommend 24 inches atm. So at 300w 12’ should be ok right?

Cheers

Yes on paper at least its allegedly the same output, I've got a light meter coming over the next day or two I'll test it and update.

Thanks for the replies guys!

Will be interesting to see if it’s linear.

I can always turn it down if needs be as flowering plants tend to receive less light intensity during flowering.

Light intensity in not linear. The intensity is proportional the inverse of distance squared. So in your case if you reduce the output by 1/2 and reduce the distance by 1/2 the light intensity is doubled. change in light intensity (0.5) / change in distance squared (0.5 x0.5= 0.25). 0.5/0.25=2.

And why would that be?
Like said, penetration. Inverse square law. Since the light is only half power to start, it will be 1/4 power at the same distance, compared to if was 100% power.

You’ll decrease the light’s footprint when you bring it closer too, so it covers a smaller canopy area.

Not here to argue,
Have fun girls.
No, you're here to act like a biatch.

Edit: I probably shouldn't say act like a bitch, but when somebody calls a bunch men "girls" when he walks out the door is not somebody who I can respect, especially not after the nonsense they spew. Maybe I should edit it and spell it differently, because calling men girls is not an insult but calling a bitch a bitch is probably one?

Edit 2: He read it wrong, the question is about hanging the same light lower with lower watts. Not at the same height, so before you start with the insults read a little closer.

everybody knows the inverse law. Which doesn't mean that a light hung higher up has better penetration. All things being even and you get the height and wattage right to give you the same par/lux take your pick at canopy, it's all the same. Unless you're talking coverage from a single point, but all the leds have several if not dozens of points of light.

I sure do love that ignore button.
