i think the difference is that it runs cooler and more efficiently

and that when it starts up it doesnt spike as hard....it has a soft start feature

Digital - MH Conversion Bulb and HPS Bulb work on the same ballast.

Plus, Digitals have the Hi-Tech Anodized Coloring.

I have been told by several hydro stores that the digital ballast has a much shorter life term and is prone to more problems.. (Just my 2 cents).

i bought a digital 600 last month, cost over 300 dollars, bought a magnetic used 600 ballast for 60 dollars,i see know differance, and the galaxy 600 digital does give off alot of heat,it is the last digital i dish out money for,i dont think they are worth the steep price.maybe they are cheap in the us but not here, alot of hydro stores dont sell them here they say they are a ripp off and have problems, just my 2 cents.

I have my 600W digital on a shelf at the top of my closet and I can hold it with no problems. It's not cold, but it isn't anywhere near what I would consider hot. It has an exhaust fan on it and the exhaust doesn't feel any warmer than what I feel coming from my PC.

my magnetic ballast isnt that hot either
i think i migt just stick with the regular since you only save on bulb life and firing besides the room im in is cold so i dont think they will mind alittle heat

i heard that digital ballast work on a different frequency and when not used with bulbs designed for them they dramatically shorten bulb life....
