digital ballast question

how long does it take for a digital ballast to strike an hps bulb? I just got one off ebay and plugged it in like 10 minutes ago and it still hasn't lit. Is this normal or did i get screwed?

should start right away and gradually get brighter...might be a bad bulb???
or...eeek!!! a bad ballast.......growlux makes a good bulb...

oh man i hope its the bulb. its making king of like a whirring noise every minute or so but the bulb is still unlit

Might be a bad ballast as typically they hum...consistantly. Might want to contact the vendor who you bought it from and tell em your troubles. Is the ballast getting hot?

its not really getting too hot. it just kind of hums for a second then goes quiet for like 30 seconds then whirrs and hums again for a second then goes quiet. this sucks

Oh its a future-bright 600 watt 120 volt digital hps ballast, if anyone has the same thing and can help me out
