Different high with different harvest times?

Whats up all hope all is well. So im wondering i have a hybrid gelato or larry bird plant about ready to harvest within the next 2-3weeks im just curious can some one explain the different highs you can achieve at harvesting buds by the color of trichomes i want to have a more psychedelic l high? Should it be more cloudy an no amber? Thanx

This is exactly what I do for my wife. I harvest at different times depending on the type of high she wants. For a more active high, strictly cloudy. For a more chilled high, cloudy/25% amber. For a couch lock/bed time high, mostly 50/50 cloudy amber.

What im trying to achieve is the high where you are chill but that tripping in your head is there as well?

But then why does strain even matter if you can acheive the high you want? Im high i just thought of that question haha.

Haha, you have the general idea but yes every strain is different as well. Try looking for a strain with the high that you want for first then try to time the harvest to maximize the desired effect. I just finished growing a Pineapple Express looking for a similar result and timed my harvest to be earlier in the window, where it was mostly cloudy with a little clear left and just a touch of amber starting to show. Been pretty happy with the results.

After growing many strains and harvesting at many different points in the last 15 years and 1k + plants, I feel strongly that the type of high is dominantly strain specific.

Harvest time effects intensity of those effects and duration of the high-

Harvest early and get less high for less amount of time. Some people call this a “more up high” but it’s really just a less intense effect. You also get less yield, and over all quality.

Harvest when the plant is fully ripe and get more high for a longer amount of time. For some people being more high might feel like “couch lock”, but really it’s just being more intensely high. You also get more yield, better flavor, smell, and density on a ripe plant.

The best smoke comes from healthy fully ripe plants.

I’ve got a Northern lights auto that is heavy indica. Wouldn’t be wise to chop early for a more “head high”.

Yea thats what ive been thinking of when to harvest right about that time where all different stages of trichome are present. How is the high like when harvested at that time?

So when would you suggest harvesting gelato for similar effects of what im trying to acheive?

That doesn’t have anything to do with a calendar. It’s about watching the signs of maturity the plant shows you.

I can’t tell you how long that plant will take in your garden with your grow conditions. I can look at pictures if you wanna post them and we can talk about the maturation process of cannabis plants.

I suggest harvesting all plants when they are fully ripe if at all possible. Fully ripe is typically when the plant is 75-80 cloudy and 15-20% Amber with as few clear trichomes as possible. Many many modern hybrids need 9-10 weeks of actual flower time not just time from 12/12 to be properly ripe.
