ok i would like to know the difference between a 400 watt hps and a 400 watt halogen im guessing the hps would be better but also should i even use 400 watt in like a 3' 10' closet or should i use 250 watts

FORGET the halogen, chuck it in the bin or light your garden up with it.

mh has more blue light veg
hps has more red orange spectrume good for bud

In a 3' by 10' space id use 2 x 600w hps.

1 400w will not cover that space.

A halogen bulb will probably burn out every 4-5 days if it doesn't burn down your house first.

the problems of halogen are three - wrong spectrum, inefficient light per energy used, and excess heat.

they are the worst kind of light.
